Go Green and Save Money Anytime, Anywhere!

Everywhere we look these days, it seems the main message is Go Green and Save Money.

This is an attractive message to many people, as we are always reminded that the planet is in peril because of useless waste. It does seem that people want to contribute to saving the planet and to save money at the same time, and that makes good sense all the way around. You can Go Green and Save Money Anytime, Anywhere.

Go Green and Save Money Starts At Home

Your home should be the first place to begin to Go Green and Save Money. Your home probably leaks heat out throughout the winter and brings heat in during the summer. And because of this we have heaters for the winter and air conditioning units in the summer. So, make sure that all windows and doors are tightly. This is where heat can leak out and make your electricity bills soar.

Also, If your house doesn't have good insulation, heat will seep out in winter and seep in during the summer. Insulation is one of the best ways to go green and save money. Your walls can have their cavities filled with insulating foam as well, all keeping the heat inside in winter and outside in summer for more comfortable living.

Go Green Fact

An estimated 15% to 30% of a home's total heating and cooling energy is lost through poorly sealed duct-work, costing consumers about $5 billion dollars annually.

Go Green and Save Money The Easy Way

Perhaps the easiest way to Go Green and Save Money is by the water you use in your home. Always look for leaks. Leaking faucets, even just a small bit will account for money wasted over time. Just that alone you could lose as much as 140 gallons a week!

Other Ways You Cut Back on Water Usage:

1. Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too.

2. Install a low-flow showerhead. They don't cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.

3. Make sure you have a faucet aerator on each faucet. These inexpensive appliances conserve heat and water, while keeping water pressure high.

4. Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area. Or heck, do an entire zero-scape yard.

5. Low flow toilets are another way to save water. You don't need to flush gallons of water away every time, just what you need.

Some awesome information. My college campus is huge into the sustainability movement. (Local organic food, bicycles etc). Great lens!
  • WorkitSmart Sep 8, 2011 @ 7:15 am | delete
Well that's totally cool about your campus.

My 22 year old daughter (works at Whole Foods) is getting more and more into that.. Sold her car, rides/walks everywhere. Now she's off the Hawaii to work on an organic farm.

    What are you studying?

Good tips! And native landscaping isn't just a greener way to grow, it's easier to care for. Once established, very little weeding and watering if any is needed, no lawns to mow or care for :-)
  • WorkitSmart Sep 5, 2011 @ 6:26 pm | delete
Amen to that! We have a HUGH drought going here in TX and wildfires out of control at the moment.. so we finally let our grass die cuz I felt too guilty watering it.

    Thanks for the comment Cindy..
