Green Up Your House!
One of the best and most effective ways to go green is by making eco friendly adjustments to your home. It doesn't have to be anything drastic, but every little change makes a difference. The best part is that not only are there tons of different ways to make your home more energy efficient, but an eco friendly home saves you a lot of money in the long run.
Save Energy and Save Money with an Eco Friendly Home
A common problem that people face when deciding whether or not to go green is the feeling of discouragement. We often hear about Al Gore and Ed Begley and all of the eco friendly changes they have made, and it can be pretty overwhelming because we don't all have the kind of money that they do. The good news is that you don't have to install solar panels in your entire home in order to go green. Even a few changes will make a tremendous difference. An excellent eco friendly home improvement suggestion is to use organic products and renewable energy whenever possible. For example, you can use natural cleaning products, tote bags instead of plastic bags for groceries, energy saving light bulbs, the list goes on and on.
Another great resource for eco friendly home improvements is Energy Star because they create appliances and other products that are energy efficient. Because Energy Star products use alternative energy, they end up saving you tons of money because we all know that electricity and gas aren't exactly free.
Perhaps the simplest and best advice that I can give about going green in your home is just to generally reduce the amount of waste that is being produced. This can be achieved by recycling more often, turning off and unplugging unused electronics, reusing scrap paper, etc. The thing to keep in mind is that the less you waste, the more energy you save. And we all know that energy saved is money saved.

Go Green by Planting a Garden
Everyday we wake up in the morning and hear different stories in the news about the crisis facing our environment, and how it's time to start changing our ways for the better. The best way to create a positive impact on the planet is by becoming more eco friendly and energy efficient. Gardening is an excellent way to do accomplish this goal.Gardening is simple, fun, and there are many different ways to express yourself and be creative. A great eco friendly idea is to plant flowers and plants that are native to the area in which you live. By planting something that is already acclamated to the soil and weather conditions, you become more likely to have successfully blooming plants with little or no extra work.
You can also go green in your garden by staying away from pesticides and other chemicals that are commonly used to kill pests. Pesticides cause a negative impact on the environment because they release toxins into the atmosphere that lead to global warming and the greenhouse effect. Not to mention, they can also be detrimental to the wildlife in your area that aren't even the target because when rainwater hits the chemical, it soaks into the soil and the ground water around your home becomes tainted.
When mowing the lawn, it is more eco friendly to mow high (at least 3 inches off the ground) and leave the clippings behind. This is because mowing a bit higher than usual actually makes the grass grow back in healthier and more plush manner. The effect is similar to having the split ends cut off your hair in order to make it grown better and faster. Leaving the loose clippings behind is also beneficial because they function as a fertilizer that will improve the quality of your lawn.
