1. Focus on Goal Achievment

Goal Achievement rather than Goal Setting

Many people start off with "Goal Setting" and never get anywhere!

It is easy enough to think about goals, but what you need to set yourself to do is "achievement". You need to find the way to ensure that you actually achieve these goals. Otherwise you are simply in the realm of wishful thinking.

So aim for goal achievement and not setting, as this sets the right framework for success.

2 Write them down

Written Goals

Think about your goals, and define what you want to achieve.

Write them down in a list.

There was a Harvard study dating back years' ago, that demonstrated that the students who wrote down their goals were the ones who were the highest achievers.

It is important that you write down for goals.

There are several ways in which this helps you:-

It helps you to define your goals.
It provides clarity.
It gives you a list to review so that you can assess success.
It gives clear motivation.

Most importantly, it gives a clear message to your subconscious mind! Once your subconscious mind accepts the clear message of what it is you are trying to achieve, it sets out to achieve it for your! If you harness the power of your subconscious mind, you can guarantee your success.

3 Break them up into bite-size steps

How to Achieve your Goals

A whole list of goals can be very intimidating!

A list of big goals can look very unachievable, and can put you off completely, as it looks too daunting!

The key here is to break down your major goals into smaller goals.

Life coaches refer to them as SMART goals

Here is the SMART template:-

S - specific

M - measurable

A - attainable

R - realistic

T - time-based

This is useful to keep in mind when you are setting your goals.

Ensure that they are specific and defined, so that you leave no room for vagueness.

Try to set a measurement so that you will know when you have achieved it.

Make sure that you set goals that are attainable, as it is no good setting yourself up for failure.

Give yourself realistic goals and measurements.

Set a time-scale for when you want to achieve each of these goals, so that you cut down on procrastination.

4 Tick them off

As you achieve your goals, tick them off your list.

Notice how good it makes you feel as you tick them off! This is great for motivation.

Remember that nature abhors a vacuum!

As you tick off your achieved goals, add new ones!

Add more stretching ones, so that you become a real achiever!

5 Focus on the Positive

When you are setting out to achieve, it is important that you phrase all of your goals in the positive.

The main reason for keeping goals in the positive, is that it sends a clear image to your subconscious mind as to what it is you are trying to achieve.

If you put some-thing in the negative, it conjures up an image to your unconscious mind as to what it is you are trying to avoid, as if that is the goal, with the result that your subconscious mind sets out to achieve the negative! This is known as "pharsing" in hypnotherapay.

I will give you an example, so that you can see what I mean. Give yourself that goal that you are going to "give up chocolate". So you are giving the message to your subconscious that you are "giving up chocolate" Your subconscious mind works in images. So what image does that message give to your subconscious mind? You've got it - "chocolate"! The word "chocolate" is the strong word in that statement, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to give that message to your subconscious mind without it conjuring up a clear image of chocolate!

In this example, it would be much better to define your goal as becoming a healthy eater, and listing the fresh foods to which you will be attracted. This gives the positive message that you want to improve your life for the better. As soon as you give you message to your subconscious that you are "giving up" something, your mind starts to sabotage your efforts, so you set yourself up for failure.

All you have to remember, is to write your goals in the positive!

6 Visualise Success

This is very important.

If you work with your subconscious mind, you will achieve your goals.

Your subconscious mind works in images, such as in dreams. Therefore, if you visualize the successful achievement of your goals, you will be successful.

It is important that you spend a few minutes on a regular basis in visualization.

This produces real results, as this is how the top sports-people are trained.

The subconscious mind does not know the difference between imagination and reality. Therefore, if you give it the experience of your success, it recognizes that as real success. So you can set up the desired neural path-ways in your brain so as to establish your success.

So visualize yourself achieving these goals, and allow the experience to build up so that it appears to be real. Allow yourself to feel the emotions of success, and hear the words of congratulation, and allow the colors to be vibrant and bright.(this is using the power of Neuro Linguistic Programming).

Most of all, enjoy the experience. Allow yourself to have fun with this.

Don't be embarrassed, as this is just a natural way of working with your mind.

Also, when you see your successful outcomes within your visualization, see yourself going all through the process to your success. Don't stop before the successful outcome. If we refer back to the example of the successful sports-person, such as a runner, he or she needs to experience the feeling of running through the finishing line and being successful. Do not stop short before the finishing line - go all the way through the experience until it's successful conclusion.

7 Read the List Every Day

It is important that you read the list ofgoals on a regular basis.

Read them, and visualize them as often as you can.
Emerge yourself in your goals

It helps if you draw diagrams to give you an image of the goal. Or you can cut out diagrams from magazines and paste them into your goals list. This helps your mind to remain interested in the goals, so that it does not become bored. It helps to make it a playful and enjoyable experience.

Visit the goals regularly so that they become a part of you.

8 Accountability

It helps a lot if you provide yourself with accountability.

If you are not held accountable, it is easy for you to make excuses for yourself, to procrastinate and never get as far as putting your goals into action.

This is one of the main tenets of life coaching. The professional life coach is some-one who holds you accountable. If actually motivates you to achieve, if you have to explain to some-one else why you have not achieved what you set out to do that week!

Perhaps you cannot afford a professional life-coach. If that is the case, try to engage the help of some-one else to hold you accountable. Announce your goals, inform others what you have set out to achieve, as the feeling of having to admit to others that you have not taken the required action is very motivating to success.

If you can persuade a friend or family member to go through your goals with you, and to discuss your achievement on a regular basis, this will really help you to achieve. It needs to be some-one who is forceful and will really hold you to account. You will make a lot of quick progress if you employ this technique.

If you have no-one who you can ask, you will have to hold yourself accountable.

Write down your progress and your feelings. Regularly review your goals. Encourage your inner voice to become your enthusiastic life-coach! Give yourself encouraging remarks, and see how much you can achieve!

9 Take Action

Improve your Life

Many people are excellent at goal setting.
They can show you beautiful lists of goals. They can break them down into smaller, achievable goals, and everything looks perfect!

However, if they never take action, all the effort is wasted!

Please let this sink in!

Yes, planning is important. However, not if it is a substitute to action.

So when you define your goals, build into them an action plan, and make sure you take that action!

You cannot receive unless you put the plan into action. Break the action plan down into small steps. Start with the first simple step, remembering that every journey starts with the first step.

Hold yourself accountable, and check whether you are putting your goals into action.

Don't give yourself a hard time! Holding yourself accountable is ensuring your integrity. You need to tell yourself the truth and be realistic. However, challenge yourself to action, and make sure that you take it.

10 Reward Yourself

When you have a success, celebrate it!

Reward yourself!

You increase your feeling of self-esteem and well-being by giving yourself a tangible reward. Your subconcsious mind loves this, and so it is motivated to repeat more successes!

You can give yourself any sort of reward you want. Some people like to buy packs of gorgeous gold stars, and place these into their goal lists or their diaries, to mark the success. It is a good image for your subconscious mind!

Some people give themselves a treat, such as a bar of chocolate or a glass of champagne! This is good, as long as you have not set the goal to become a healthy eater or a non-drinker! lol

Give yourself a real reward that you will enjoy, and which feels a real treat and celebration.

Enjoy the process.

If you enjoy, you engage all of your emotions and imagination. You feel yourself to be a success, and you will become a success! You will also be a happier person, with a higher feeling of self-esteem,which is very healthy!
