How to Set Goals for Squidoo

Squidoo Goal Setting

If you landed here, you are likely busy setting your goals for Squidoo. Setting Squidoo goals can happen at the first of a month, a quarter, a year, or on your birthday! Whatever plan makes you happy, that's the way to do them!

These are just my suggestions, but hopefully they will set your own ideas in motion! As always, enjoy your work and creativity at Squidoo. When it stops being fun, your readers will know. That's the time to take a break!

Wishing you every success in meeting all your Squidoo goals!

Squidoo Community Goals

How will you participate in the Squidoo Community this year? Is there a volunteer position just waiting for you?

Of course, you need to join SquidU and participate in discussions there.

You will want to set goals for visiting, too. How many lenses will you visit this year, ranking and commenting? if you visit just five lenses a day for a year (or 360 days allowing for a few missed days), you will visit 1800 lenses a year! Not only will you learn about a variety of subjects, but you will be exposed to different styles of creating lenses and get to know many of your fellow lensmasters.

How many lenses will you read next year?

What is your schedule for visiting Squidoo lenses?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

I intend to read 3-5 lenses a day for over 1000 for the year.

wordstock says:

I try to read at least 5 lenses a day. It's a great learning experience.

purplelady says:

I have not been keeping track of the lenses I read; because one lens will have a link or a comment that will take me to another and so on and so on. I have started keeping an email addressed to myself in my Drafts and have been adding lens URLs and other links to that Draft email that I can reference. But it is not a very organized way to do it; so I think that I shall take your lens to heart and say I shall read at least 3-5 a day and keep track of them according to category. Thanks for providing the pep talk in here. 5 Goals and 1 Giant Fave so I will know where you are at all times.

ohcaroline says:

I enjoy reading lenses as much as writing them (well, almost as much). I think I read more than the 5-a-day. There's so much to learn from them.

JJNW says:

I would LOVE to visit all the great pages on Squidoo!! This is a great goal. I try to Twitter to folks to remember to support each other. Thanks for reminding ME! Follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/JJNW and tweet me when you make new lenses and I will follow you. That will be a good reminder too!

BigGirlBlue says:

Geez I would think 800 by next year.

Pastiche says:

I'm aiming for 5 a day ... just like my veggies.

Sylvestermouse says:

I kinda cheated on this answer. I looked at my stats and in the last 6 months I have rated over 1500 lenses. I don't have a schedule exactly. I just like to read.

Pukeko says:

I usually always read at least 5 a day. I hadn't added it up before. No wonder I am so addicted to Squidoo!

BevsPaper says:

I really do try very hard to read at least 5 lenses per day. I learn all sorts of things and meet nice people too.

I don't keep track of how many lenses I read.

crosscreations says:

I don't really keep track of this, but do visit lenses daily - especially to those who have visited mine. Also I visit some regularly in my Squidoo angel category, but always feel way behind on this.

blue22d says:

I tried to keep track in a lens but I could not keep up. I haven't made the commitment as to how many I will read this year but I know I will enjoy them. It is good to have goals and I appreciate your lens.

aj2008 says:

It's only when I get questions like this that I may actually go and check how many lenses I have read. But then I have read more than my stats say, because I reckon there's a huge number I have landed on and then got off as quick as I could ;)

I dont have a visit schedule, but I guess I should make it part of my Time Management!

EelKat says:

oh my - I have no idea how many lenses I read per day - all I know is I've already rated well over 6,000 lenses since I joined Squidoo, so I average about 2,000 per year this being my 3rd year here. No doubt I'll add another 2,000 before this year is out, maybe more.

Norma_Budden says:

Currently, I don't keep track of how many lenses I read and rate. However, in the new future, I will try to set a goal of about 3 - 5 per day. Otherwise, I fear, Squidoo will consume my life because, just clicking on one lens has kept me on the computer for an additional hour, or more, because it led me on an extended journey which I hadn't, initially, counted on. Now I know better.... so I'll likely set a goal but not limit myself if inspiration strikes.

WindyWinters says:

I know I read and rate too many as I've rated 2,693 in a year and a half but...I enjoy it.

MarcMooney says:

Currently I am researching Squidoo, at the moment I am reading about 10 a day, but I think I will stop counting soon, personally I think I will read more than I write. This will ensure that the ones I do write are as as good as they can be.

mysticmama says:

On Jan 8th I will have been at Squidoo for 1 year, I have rated 2,578 lenses as of today... since I only rate about 1/3 of all the lenses I visit...I guess that averages to about 20-30 lenses every day?

I don't really keep track, but I know I visit a lot of lenses lol!

TheGreenerMe says:

Right now I have no schedule to read lenses. I tend to go after lenses that grab my attention, like this one did in the forums. Some days I might visit 30, other times I might have a couple weeks go by without visiting a lens. All in all, probably around 3 per day is what I'm averaging.

julcal says:

I will do my usual morning routine, get through my morning rush, and then check my "favorites" along with twitter. This usually keeps me busy for at least an hour of lens reading. In fact, I have to tear myself away or my day would be filled with reading lenses. I can't keep track, every day is different, due to my other business. I really hit the ground running each day.

Are you a goalsetter?

Do you set goals for your Squidoo activities?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes! Squidoo is my business on line. I set firm goals and plans.

crosscreations says:

Yes, and find that I'm not very productive without focus on goals. I think those who are self-employed need goals more than anyone.

AmateurAtHTML says:

I'm new here, but I hope I'll get good at goal setting...and goal achieving, which is the big issue!
~Lynne

ohcaroline says:

I've been a squid about a month now...and yes I have goals.

aj2008 says:

Errr......I try to set goals Joan!

EelKat says:

Squidoo is my #2 source of income (after Zazzle) so for me it's a business and is treated as such. Originally I had a goal of creating one new lens a day, but once I hit 300 lenses I changed it to 3 new lenses per week instead, because I had to allow time to update the older lenses.

Today, 500+ lenses later, I still use the 3 lenses per week goal and I try to update no less than 10 lenses per week. I'm on Squidoo about 4 hours per day as a result, but it pays off.

ElizabethJeanAllen says:

Work full time but Squidoo is more than a hobby for me. I set a lot of goals. Unfortuately I'm usually scrambling to meet them. I'm organized but there is just not enough hours in the day.

BigGirlBlue says:

Definitely!

Norma_Budden says:

I work outside the home but, like anywhere else, I do set goals for myself. Ironically, I even set a goal to relax; otherwise, I will miss that opportunity for an extended period of time - except during sleeping hours. Insane, isn't it?

MarcMooney says:

Yes 2010 will be the "Year of the Squid" for me.

Sylvestermouse says:

I am definitely a goalsetter.

Pukeko says:

I am also a goal setter.

BevsPaper says:

Yes, I'm a goalsetter, like you Joan. I've outlined some reachable goals for myself.

No. Squidoo is just my hobby. I Squidoo at my leisure.

wordstock says:

I can't say that Squidoo is a hobby but I hoped to have more than 200 lenses before my third anniversary. Since that's only a few days away, I am determined to have 250 before the end of the year.

vallain says:

I guess I'm more of a feet first kind of person and I just jump into the puddle and start splashing around. It's fun, but a bit messy too.

OhMe says:

I set short goals but not much on Long Range Goals. My sister is much better at that than I am

julcal says:

No, when I set goals for doing lenses i found myself stressed about it. Now I come and go. Each time I come back I find lens-making more and more of a joy. I just made a new lens to SEO a new website. It's still a work in progress, but when I'm finished I feel motivated to do another Jung lens!

Creating Lenses

Squidoo Lens Creation Plan

How many new lenses do you want to create this year? 50? 100? 200? After you determine the number of lenses you want to create, simply divide that by the time available. For example, to make 50 lenses in one year, you only need to create one lens a week. Most people have time to create at least one lens a week. When you have 50 qualified lenses, you can apply for Giant Squid Status.

Or if you are a Giant Squid working on 100 lenses, just one lens a week for a year will accomplish that goal as well.

The Ever Present Goal of Making Money

Making Money on Squidoo

How much money would you like to make from your lenses this year? Again, break down the number to the months of the year. If you are making $10 a month now, can you double, triple, quadruple that amount next year? How on earth do people make money at Squidoo?

Study the most successful lensmasters. You will not see spammy lenses and you will learn the best way to present products and make sales.

Thank you for Squid Graphics!

What is your vision of your future Squidoo life?

How do you see yourself at Squidoo in a year? Will you be a Giant Squid? A member of the Giant Squid 100 club?

My prediction

My goals are to continue making lenses- at least 2 a week, visit at least 5 lenses a day, and learn more and more and more about being a good lensmaster.

vallain, at 9pm on January 16, 2012 predicts:

I see below that I was predicting I'd reach 100 lenses that year. My new prediction is that I'll reach 550 lenses (and tear out my hair trying to keep them updated).

crosscreations, at 10pm on January 15, 2012 predicts:

I'm not so concerned with building new lenses anymore as much as improving those I already have. I'm always tweaking & updating, backlinking and searching for better SEO and conversion. In a year I intend to triple my average monthly Squidoo income (or better).

wordstock, at 1pm on January 15, 2012 predicts:

Two of the sites that I previously wrote for have changed and are no longer viable options. My future Squidoo life depends as much on the management of this site as my goals. I just want to get better and better.

AmateurAtHTML, at 11am on November 19, 2010 predicts:

A couple lenses a week would be great, if I can keep up with it! Cross your fingers for me and send good thoughts at me! LOL

sirkeystone, at 11pm on April 12, 2010 predicts:

Weeelllll.... Joan, You should know me by now, I write in spurts, mostly because I am a deviantart/twitter/facebook/plurk/webook (and well the list goes on...) I write for my hobby. I have to feel inspired...

But (and I say this emphatically), I have been doing about 1 to 2 lenses per week now for about a month. I am trying different things, like keeping a list taped to my light table next to my desk, and a post-it full of things that have to be done by the end of the month.

Joan4, at 1pm on March 10, 2010 predicts:

I am in the process of backing up my lenses using the export tool. I have been really lazy about that and now working on a better schedule system to do it!

blue22d, at 10pm on March 3, 2010 predicts:

Wow, that is a great goal. Do you backup all your lenses?

JJNW, at 4pm on February 4, 2010 predicts:

Now that I am a Giant Squid (SO cool!), I need to keep up with all those lenses. One goal is to check ALL the Amazon items and other links on at least 3 pages a week. They get out of date and then income and rank go bye-bye! I would also like to at least double my income. Right now I make a decent part-time job income. I am trying to market my lenses more.

theraggededge, at 10am on January 31, 2010 predicts:

I won't make Giant 100 this March because I am working on bringing my current batch of lenses up to scratch and creating new ones more slowly. It feels like I still have loads to learn so that's my priority. Hope to make it by June though.

vallain, at 10am on January 24, 2010 predicts:

I should reach 100 lenses quite soon. My goal ought to be to study more about making lenses instead of going the trial-and-error route.

aj2008, at 10am on January 22, 2010 predicts:

In a year I will be a member of the Giant 100 Club and with any luck (OK and some proper planning!) it will be in less than three months, but then again it might be six.....

EelKat, at 7am on January 20, 2010 predicts:

My goal is to build 3 new lenses per week, update 10 old lenses per week, have 750 (or more) lenses by Christmas 2010, have rated 8,000 (or more) lenses by the end of the year, and increase my Squidoo pay to never being less than $458 per month.

ElizabethJeanAllen, at 5am on January 12, 2010 predicts:

My lens making goes in spirts. Wehn I latch onto a topic I make lenses one after another-take a break and then do it again. I'm on a gardening kick right now. I've made eight lenses since Christmas and 7 of the 8 are on gardening.

Norma_Budden, at 5pm on January 9, 2010 predicts:

I do tend to get over-excited and create more lenses than I had set out to accomplish - and I've already determined that this may never change. I've just graduated from RocketMoms and entered into the roles of SquidAngel and Giant Squid and am willing to be a turtle for a while, in terms of taking on additional roles or duties. The 100 Club may be possible before summer's end but I'm not pushing it; if I achieve it, great - if not, it will be a goal for a later time.

HorseAndPony, at 7pm on January 8, 2010 predicts:

I also hope to be ready to apply for the 100 club soon. This has become my job and I love it.
