Goat Of Mendes are a German Heavy Metal band who formed in 1994.
Influenced by bands such as Sabbat, Skyclad and Cirith Ungol, Goat Of Mendes have forged a musically eclectic mix of several genres of Heavy Metal, including Black, Death, Doom, Thrash, NWOBHM and folk metal!
In their own words; "...Goat Of Mendes forges all kinds of real Metal to one piece. Let it be Doom, Death, Thrash, Black or whatever Metal, since it IS Metal it can be part of the music.".
Goat Of Mendes are faithful worshippers of old Pagan traditions and this is reflected in their lyrics and themes.

Goat Of Mendes have uploaded 4 songs from their forthcoming album "Consort of the Dying God" onto their MySpace page.
A statement released by the band;
"Goat Of Mendes present their first complete concept album with a playing time of nearly 70 minutes.
Inspired by the annual Gypsy celebration for their saint Sara la Kali in Saintes Maries de la Mer, we have woven a fascinating story around ancient gypsy faith and legends, dark secrets of early Christianity and the very essence of being a Pagan.
With a new line-up, gathered around founding members Surtur and Marco, we have enriched our already unique style by integrating elements of hungarian and romanian folklore and haunting gypsy scales.
Apart from this, the new record of course still features crunching, yet melodic twin guitar work, thunderous drumming, awesome leads and variable, charismatic vocals."

Goat of Mendes started recording a new album to be titled "Consort of the Dying God" in October 2008, with an expected release due later in 2009. According to the Goat of Mendes website, the new album is heavily influenced by "Hungarian and Romanian folklore"

- The so-called "Mendes Pentacle" or Sabbatic Goat emblem was first connected to Satanism in the nineteen sixties, falsely attributed to the nineteenth century occultist Elipas Levi. This symbol is commonly confused with Levi's depiction of the Templar icon Baphomet, which was never presented as a symbol of evil, but of harmony, redemption, and union with the divine.

- The Sigil of the Baphomet: This is a pentacle form, with two points pointing upwards, one downwards, and one to each side. This is an upturned or inversed pentacle. The point-up pentangle represents the Spirituality of mankind as is used by Pagans and spiritualists although it was also used by early Christians ('victory of spirit over matter'[1]) The point-down pentangle represents the carnal side of mankind rather than the spiritual ('victory of matter over spirit'[1]) . The Sigil of the Baphomet is a design based on the upturned pentacle.
Inside the pentacle is the image of a goat, its horns filling the upper two points, its ears filling the two lateral ones, and its mouth filling the lower one. This is Satan. The goat and pentacle theme is very old, and has its origins in alchemy. The pentacle is surrounded by two circles the innermost touching the points of the pentacle. In between the two circles are 5 Hebrew characters, spelling LVTHN anticlockwise: Leviathan. - The Goat of Mendes, Mendez Goat, Sigil of Baphomet, or Sabbatic Goat
