HERE'S WHAT I THINK

God Did Not Write the Bible

The belief that God wrote the Bible is belief, not fact. I am dubious anyone has ever had a vision, that a blazing bush ever spoke to Moses, and that God used the prophets to speak for him/her/it.

The Bible is a patchwork quilt of ancient scriptures -- written by people who believed the world was flat, women were inferior, and Methusela lived 900 years. Today's Bible was strung together centuries after any of its authors or subjects walked -- or supposedly walked -- the Earth.

It is literature, not God's word.

Yes, you're right!

Luke Baker says:

When people tell me that GOD wrote the bible I ask them to open it up and read the very first words in the new testament.. it says The gospel ACCORDING to Mathew.... this repeats for all the other gospels...According to Mathew,John Etc can only meen that the words written by Mathew,John Etc. is an account of the story as seen through their eyes or understanding

No way, Monkeybrain!

Steve Wu says:

Hi Reg,

I used to think that way, too. But I've changed. One day I went to a speech about the credibility of the Bible, and the speaker mentioned a few things I didn't know about:

1. The prophecies in the Bible: Things foretold hundreds of years ahead of time actually happened. There are so many examples in the Bible and I couldn't say it's coincidence.

2. Consistency of the contents: there were about 40 people totally who wrote the different parts of the Bible, and the time span was more than 1,000 years, and yet the contents they wrote are consistent with and relevant to one another. It sounds reasonable to believe that someone is behind all these writers.

There are more evidences supporting the credibility of the Bible. Now I believe that the Bible is God's words. If I am wrong, it doesn't really matter. But if I am right, we better take His words seriously, because the consequences of our responses will be eternal.

Blessings.

Steve
