GoDaddy Review

Ranked #110,807 in Computers & Electronics, #1,705,756 overall

As you can tell by the picture I'm not really a fan of GoDaddy. If you're thinking of joining them, please read my experiences first.

I don't like GoDaddy

My experience with GoDaddy first started 5 years ago when I purchased a domain from them, I also got a small hosting account with them. They are a big brand and they were cheap, so I thought what the heck!

After using them for one year I was getting fed up.

- There's a constant barrage of adverts and paid addons. Every time you want to buy something they insist on making you go through 3 pages of offers aking if you want this or that.

- The support is poor, every email I ever sent got a generic reply back, a templated reply that didn't really solve my specific problems.

- Although the basic features seem reasonable at first, you soon realise just how limited your hosting account is.

The bandwidth and space they allow is quite minimal, so as your website grows and gets more visitors it may eventually get overwhelmed and you'll be asked to upgrade.

I started building more websites, in fact a total of 15, with Godaddy you need to get a new account with every domain you purchase. The total cost for 15 websites therefore would be $74.85 a month. Which I thought was a bit ridiculous.

Naturally I decided to look for a better deal . The hosting company I eventually chose was HostGator, I've been with them for 4 years now and have never looked back, they honestly are the most awesome hosting company ever :P

- They don't have bandwidth or diskspace limits. (read unlimited visitors)
- I can host as many domains as I like on one account (thats all my 15 websites on one account for $9.95 a month)

They also have really awesome support, I can talk to them on the online and they actually LISTEN, they are not outsourced guys in india or useless underpaid workers, they show genuine respect and have always been patient with me, fixing any problem I've had.

As I got into the more technical side of websites e.g: PHP, MYSQL, Cron jobs, etc I began to love hostgator even more because they don't impose any limits here either, you can have unlimited mysql databases for instances, Godaddy limits your account to 10 and asks you for money if you want more. The whole idea of charging for extra MYSQL databases is ridiculous, they are totally free for Godaddy, it doesn't cost them anything, so why are they charging extra!

I'm an absolute HostGator convert now (did I mention unlimited emails too). However, I wasn't always, it took me a while to make the leap to Hostgator because there were so many other companies out there with good reviews and bad reviews. It was quite difficult to judge whether hostgator really was any good or not. What swayed me to try them out was their 1 cent coupon.

Use 'loadedhosting' and you'll get your first month for just 1 cent on the baby plan (the one I'm on)

If that doesn't work there are a few others too:

seemorehosting, showmethehosting, phasespace

If they work tell your friends.

You are not required to commit anymore than one month, you can quit within the first month and nothing is lost.

Conclusion:

If you're thinking of moving to a new host or upgrade from a free hosting account like freewebs then make SURE you don not signup to GoDaddy, do your research, theres plenty of good deals out there. If you choose HostGator, use the coupons so you can try them out and if you don't like them just leave.

I have been making websites for 5 years now, I used GoDaddy at first, but I'm much happier with my current host - HostGator.
