Godalming: My Husband's Hometown

The town of Godalming has a population of more than 21,000 and is situated in some of the finest countryside in southern England in the county of Surrey.

Godalming is midway between London and the south coast and both are easy to reach by public and private transport. This location has played a major role in Godalming's development since it was first recorded in the will of King Alfred the Great of Wessex in AD899. Narrow attractive streets, lined with many ancient and historic buildings, lie alongside the River Wey, and the town centre has been enhanced for pedestrian use.

Godalming is a town with many famous sons and daughters and in 1881 became the first town in the world to have its own electric power supply.

Let's take a tour!

Yes. I lived in Guildford from 2004 to 2006 and we used to go to some of the pubs in and near Godalming - plus I liked to shop at the Waitrose there. I always thought it was such a pretty and quiet town.

Godalming in Surrey was one of the first towns I visited when I was in England. Mainly because my husband lived nearby.
