God and the True Meaning of Transcendental

Transcendental God versus the "personal" God

Some people envision God as a benign old man. Wise and kind at times but temperamental and vindictive at other times. This god as some refer to as a "external" personal god. It is called such, because he/she is outside of our realm of reality and he/she interacts with it. He/she listens to our prayers and sometimes seemingly answers them.

The other god is the Transcendental and omnipresent god of the east. This god is everywhere and in everything. This god has no "sex" and can be referred as IT. In this term "Transcendental" means that this god transcends space and time and even human understanding that is limited by finite and perishable and has hardship in understanding abstract ideas and paradoxical concepts.
When people put ideas and things and bestow it upon g-d, even by NAMING it, we do blasphemy of a sort. The Hindus and even the Jews would not allow g-d to be named as such we limit its scope and understanding. That is true transcendental thinking albeit it is a little dogmatic, considering they used to stone anyone who uttered the name of god...

God is just a name and as I am close to Kabalistic, Pythagorean thinking only refers to our limited human intelligence to something of an order and power of Nature which is permeated throughout the universe. Later people, clergy and others decided that this life-force the Chinese refer to as Chi, should have humanoid characteristics and become external to our human existence (typical western deity form). In reality this force is never external to us but it exists within all thing animate or inanimate. In this sense we have all the characteristics of god in our higher self. This is why some say...
Namaste (I see the god in you) which is a beautiful thing to acknowledge...

For hundreds of millions, including myself, g-d is NOT an anthropomorphic, personal g-d who interferes and intrudes in human affairs and there exits a transcendental and more profound understanding, which IMHO is the more balanced and philosophically solid one. It is the ones with limited imagination or intellect who limits god to personal human faculties who judge, smite or otherwise interfere with the mess we create - like most western churches, clergy or power-structure insinuate. Heaven and Hell are human constructs and they reflect the mindset and behavior of the beholder. The Church, in bed with the politicians wants to control the population, most of the western deity image and associated dogmas, are designed to instill fear and maintain control.

A Quote from Blaise Pascal

from his book Pensées

"If there is a God, He is infinitely incomprehensible, since, having neither parts nor limits, He has no affinity to us. We are then incapable of knowing either what He is or if He is" - Blaise Pascal - Pensées

The Best Description of God (IMHO)

quoted by HPB from the Secret Doctrine

"God is an Omnipresent, Eternal, Boundless, and Immutable PRINCIPLE on which all speculation is impossible, since it transcends the power of human conception and could only be dwarfed by any human expression or similitude. It is be-yond the range and reaches of thought - in the words of Mandukya, "unthinkable and unspeakable."
The absolute universality of that law of periodicity. That the only constant in the Universe is change. The flux and re-flux, the ebb and flow, which physical science has observed and recorded in biology, cosmology and quantum physics.
The fundamental identity of all Souls with the Universal Over-Soul, the latter being itself an aspect of the Unknown Root; and the obligatory pilgrimage for every Soul - a spark of the former - through the Cycle of Incarnation (or "Necessity") in accordance with Cyclic and Karmic law, during the whole term. In other words, no purely spiritual Buddhi (divine Soul) can have an independent (conscious) existence before the spark which issued from the pure Essence of the Universal Sixth principle, - or the OVER-SOUL, - has:
(1) Passed through every elemental form of the phenomenal world of that Manvantara, and;
(2) Acquired individuality, first by natural impulse, and then by self-induced and self-devised efforts (checked by its Karma), thus ascending through all the degrees of intelligence, from the lowest to the highest Manas, from mineral and plant, up to the holiest archangel (Dhyani-Buddha). The pivotal doctrine of the esoteric philosophy admits no privileges or special gifts in man; save those won by his own Ego through personal effort and merit throughout a long series of metem-psychoses and reincarnations.
This is why the Hindus say that the Universe is Brahma and Brahmâ, for Brahma is in every atom of the universe, the six principles in Nature being all the outcome - the variously differentiated aspects - of the SEVENTH and ONE, the only reality in the Universe whether Cosmical or micro-cosmical; and also why the permutations (psychic, spiritual and physical), on the plane of manifestation and form, of the sixth (Brahmâ the vehicle of Brahma) are viewed by meta-physical"

Your personal experience is of the utmost importance. Believe it or not, there is no right answer and your perception of god will not alter your spiritual evolution. Your deeds present and past are more of the issue than your perception of god. God does not care as long as you humbly accept the presence of a higher power and orderliness of things.

Is your god a personal or transcendental god?

Butch says:

i say you're copying a lot from Burt Wilson. Shame.

andrasnm says:

a "personal" god concept is an oxymoron....

spirituality says:

I'm closer to the transcendental god - but would describe my idea of 'God' as immanent (like, I think, Blavatsky's).

Kabbalistic understanding of God

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaballah

Kabbalists speak of the first aspect of God as Ein Sof; this is translated as "the infinite", "endless", or "that which has no limits". In this view, nothing can be said about this aspect of God. This aspect of God is impersonal. The second aspect of divine emanations, however, is at least partially accessible to human thought. Kabbalists believe that these two aspects are not contradictory but, through the mechanism of progressive emanation, complement one another.

The Universe is finite but what's beyond ISN'T

The Firmamanet of Heavens

There is an imaginary "line" in outer space where our universe ends and infinity begins. Our universe is not the first or last but most certainly it is all we know and have. There were several big bangs when this universe emanated from Infinity and one day it will all cease to exist and make room for a new universe that will come about at some point. This will go on forever as it has been going on forever......

Atheists or Non-dualist?

Some people would say that my thinking or even Buddhism is atheistic precisely due to our special way of looking at god

A true infinite and transcendental god does not "exist" in the traditional meaning of what existence constitutes.
Wkipedia Atheism Link
Atheism is the position that deities do not exist, or the rejection of theism. In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities. Which is close to my thinking as well. Contrary to atheists I believe in higher beings who are not deities or gods but exist on a far more advanced plane than mere human beings.
