M. Styles C.I.P. (Chillin' In Peace)

This week I wanted to dedicate the Dope Artist Of The Week column to my man Matthew Addai Afful a.k.a M. Styles. Matt was an emcee from my second hometown, Detroit, Michigan. He had just dropped his CD, God Music, back in May of 2007. We both supported each other in the pursuit of pushing Holy Hip Hop into the mainstream. I respected him as an artist and he respected me as a fan with a passion to give this genre of hip hop more exposure. Matt tragically left this earth on the morning of Febrauary 22nd, 2008 at approximately 6:45 a.m. on his way to work. While switching lanes on a bridge he hit some black ice and went air born and landed on the guard rail upside down, sliding 300 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. Although it was a blow to those of us that knew Matt, we still had a certain peace within us because we knew he was chillin' with God now. And this very incident is the bases of every message in a Christian Hip Hop song....meaning, you can still live with a certain swagger about yourself but get your life right with God because you never know when you might just check out.

My Homie Is Gone But God's Music Still Lives On

The Music, the man, the movement. The artist called M Styles was on a mission to put Hip Hop on a spinning axis. While putting together earth pounding tracks and futuristic lyrics, this writer/composer/producer was poised to attack. Attack what you may ask? The industry.

He was the void filler. The ingredient that is missing. With production by Nez Prez & Himself along with a host of other guest producers, he will have you vibing within seconds. Prepare yourself to travel through M Styles musical landscape, with lyrics that not only speak to your soul but to your spirit man. With performances at the DEMF (Detroit Electronic Musical Festival) and some of Detroit's Hottest Hip Hop spots this artist has proven he owned the Mic when he was on stage. Cop the new CD, God Music, and LET THE HEAD NODDING BEGIN.

Check out M. Styles at his Myspace Page.

This column is now featured on the homepage of Ressurwreck Radio. To all my heads out there that miss the real hip hop sound, the host of the Res Radio, my man Shine, gives it to you raw with no chaser.

On the video that says Michigan Accidents you can hear the radio traffic report at :23 seconds about Matt's accident then you'll see his truck being towed away.
