Ranked #20,152 in Healthy Living, #291,746 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

What do your shopping habits say about you?

As consumers today, we have more options than ever before in history as to where and how we spend our money. Franchises are constantly popping up in convenient locations and the world wide web brings everything else into reach. We no longer have to settle for just what is available. The world is our shopping mall.

For this reason, now, more than ever before, we have the ability to make a statement by the types of things we buy, and where we buy them from.

Money=value. And where you put your money shows the world what you truly value. Our grandparents didn't have much of a choice. But we do. So where are we spending our money? What does that say about us?

What does it say about you?

Fair Trade & Workers

Why fair trade is a good thing for People.

Fair trade exists to help bridge the gap between the rich and the poor; Privileged nations and the Third World.

Fair trade is very open and transparent about its business practices. This honesty is a safeguard for the workers.

Fair trade is committed to:

-Helping the Economically Disadvantaged
-Providing safe work environments
-Providing fair wages
-Promoting gender equality in the workplace
-Providing opportunities for betterment

At it's heart, fair trade is about people. Seeing that all people, no matter where they live, have an opportunity to take charge of their own lives and change them for the better. It is NOT charity/free handouts. It's helping others help themselves. To use an old saying, fair trade is "teaching people how to fish."

Fair Trade & Business

How fair trade is affecting the Business World

Fair trade has really taken off in North America and Europe. More and more, businesses are reporting soaring profits after they introduce fair trade products. I believe this is because people are changing. More and more, consumers are becoming aware of global issues and are backing their beliefs with their money. Corporations and companies are now catching on. Fair trade is good for business, and good for their corporate image. As consumers, the more we buy fair trade, the more readily available it will become.

I love the concept of fair trade! I wish more markets provided these products. And sometimes when they do the prices seem higher, which is too bad.
    Great lens! 5*

This is great! Thanks for doing this. I run a fair trade project with Peruvian Artisans and it is interesting how the market is slowly growing to support us, however, there is a loooong way to go... Visit us at http://www.IncaKids.org
