Goji Berries.... A nutritious snack, and so much more!

Goji Berries are an ancient Chinese remedy. They were described as a "superior tonic" by Shennong's Materia Medica, written in the 1st century.

The Goji berry market has exploded in recent years, and you can buy goji juice, dired goji berries for snacking, goji powder, goji extract to take as a supplement....

Learn what they taste like, how to enjoy them, and where to buy them to get the best deal.

These are also called wolfberries and their scientific name is Lycium barbarum. I like to call them Gogi or Golgi, but I know that's wrong!

Heaven Mountain Goji Berries

My Review - They live up to their claim of being snack quality!

Heaven Mountain Goji Berries Snack PackI got a free sample of these Goji Berries from iHerb.com. I've never eaten Goji Berries before. I imagined that they might be like raisins or cranberries. I was wrong.

They taste similar to dates. They are about the same moisture content as dried cranberries. The seeds aren't very noticeable. They do tend to stick together. They taste sweet but maybe slightly bitter at the same time.

I didn't feel stronger or any less stressed after eating them, and I can't attest to their health benefits. I would eat them again... But from reading reviews, I can tell that some people just love the taste of them. That's not me.

The brochure that came with my free sample is really interesting. It has a map of china that shows where Heaven Mountain is, which is where these berries come from.

The brochure questions as to whether any Goji berries are actually from the Himalayas or Tibet region.... They say that since Goji berries are not grown in the Himalayas, it is a mystery as to where those Goji berries comes from. I guess they must be trying to make their competition look like liars?

Where do Goji Berries Come From?

Mostly China, it seems... Maybe only China?

Not yet but I have read about Goji Berries before. Find the controversy about their place of origin amusing. If indeed they are grown in Tibet - they should be grown in my state as well - as it borders Tibet and Nepal. I should find out what these Berries are called in Hindi and my dialect - Garhwali.
