Gokusen (Japanese Drama) Filming Locations

The filming location for Shirokin Gakuen school grounds in Gokusen is the Jissen Women's Educational Institute in Hino, Tokyo. This facility was used as the main setting for Gokusen season 1. Jdrama fans have surely noted that this was the school used in Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) as well.

The house where Yankumi lives with her grandfather Ryuichiro Kuroda, chief of the Oedo Yakuza Clan) and his henchmen is Meguro House Studio, a traditional Japanese style home in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The scenes of their home in Gokusen seasons 1, 2, and 3 were all filmed in this house and the surrounding areas.

The filming location for the steps near Yamaguchi Kumiko's family's home is the Dandan Saka in Nishi-Nippori. Yankumi is often seen climbing or going down these steps on her way home to or from school. Dandan means gradual and Saka means hill or slope.

Whenever Yankumi goes to school, she waits for the bus in front of a flower shop called Hana Ju. The bus stop is supposedly located near the Oedo family's home.

Yankumi's student Kuma's family owns a noodle shop called Kumai Ramen which happens to be Chuka Ryouri 15-Ban in Wakamatsu-cho 2-Chome in Fuchu. This very same restaurant is the setting for Mine's dad's Uraken in the Nodame Cantabile Jdrama.

On the way to Shirokin Gakuen, Yankumi, Sawada Shin (Jun Matsumoto) and some of her students are often seen crossing a footbridge. This pedestrian bridge is located by the Tokyo Ajinomoto Stadium in Chofu, Tokyo.
