I bet very few people can honestly say they've had the pleasure of playing on a gold or silver chess set. But before we get to that, I'd be remiss if I wrote about luxury chess sets without mentioning THE luxury chess set.

The reason these gold and silver chess sets are so affordable is because they aren't made of solid gold. Instead, they're made of brass and then plated with silver and gold. Part of the reason these are plated is because solid gold would just cost too much. But a bigger reason is because a solid gold chess piece would be outrageously heavy. Since these chess men are made of brass and then plated in 24K gold and silver, they're able to be weighted perfectly.

    I've played using carved stone chessmen but never had the privilege to play chess with gold or silver pieces. Interesting gift idea for a chess lover ... or a couple nerds getting married. Cool lens idea!

    I didn't even know anybody made gold or silver chess sets. I used to want a set made up from the Avon Collectible Bottles, until I figured out how much it was going to cost me to collect all the pieces. Haven't played chess really since high school, though I did teach both my kids to play, but even that was over 20 years ago. (btw - I really like how you've used borders on this page - how elegant they look!)

    I don't play chess, too much thinking involved. If I want to do heavy thinking, I want to get paid for it, lol. But I do like the fact that they look beautiful so a gold or silver chess set might be nice to have. On the other hand, I love to play checkers,so the gold and silver checkers are more my style.

    No I don't play chess at all, but my son does. Needless to say, but I'll say it...unless I hit a lottery, he'll never get one of these! WOW! But you did the lens up right, it's beautiful!
