Gold Panning for fun and profit

Grab your pan and some lunch and lets head to the river, what? You don't have a pan! Good lord. That's ok, we can stop on the way.
Gold pans are one of the most inexpensive of all the supplies that you need for panning. Most panners like to have two or more. I have seen gold pans sell for $5 each for the small and $8 to $10 for the large. All you need to get started is one large. Gold panning is hasn't changed at all since we started panning. The pans have some ripples and are made of different materials. But how we pan for gold hasn't changed. The principle is a basic principle of physics. The gold in your pan is heavier than all the other sand and rock. Just a little agitation and shaking and the gold goes to the bottom.

Your new gold pan

You will need to season your new pan

The new gold pan you just purchased needs to be seasoned or conditioned. The manufacturing process leaves them with a film of oil and very smooth sides. Start by wiping some rubbing alcohol with a towel, cleaning the pan inside and out. Then boil some water and add some dish soap, this mixture is poured into the pan and swirled around then dumped out. Some prospectors use the old handful of dirt and rub. That should do it.
