The rise in the gold market and the basic economy today have people turning to what ever they can to make a little money. Prospecting is not only fun and a great source of excersise, it can be very profitable. Metal detector sales have been on the rise since before 2008 and still climbing. California is known for the great gold rush and for good reason, tons of gold has been taken out of California. Experts say that over 90% of the gold on earth has yet to be found. Gold Panning. The processes of filtering out gold from the aggregate. Most gold is found as flour gold, that is it's much like flour, very fine. Very small flakes are next and then what the industry calls pickers. Pickers are small nuggets of gold you can pick out of your pan with your fingers. Then of course your nuggets, which you can see right away, shinning and glimmering at you as if to say, you found me!!

Finding gold with a metal detector

Gold Detecting. Most metal detectors have the capability of detecting gold, however if your serious about finding gold, I would recomend using a gold detector. Desighned for detecting gold. Depending on how much you are able to spend you can get a pretty good detector for between $800 and $2000. Some top detector manufactures are... Bounty Hunter, Fisher, and Whites just to name a few. Prospecting Rules 

Don't be a claim jumper!

Prospecting For Gold. First things first, you must know the rules of prospecting. Number one is knowing if an area is already claimed, that's where the term claim jumper came from. If an area belongs to an existing claim owner, they are required to have claim stakes in all four corners of the claim and at the very least the name of the claim and proper numbers. There are many resourses on the internet for investigating an area before you head out. Also don't forget to have fun!
