Gold is dense, soft, shiny and the most flexible and ductile pure metal known. Maximum of the gold that is manufactured today goes into the manufacture of jewellery. On the other hand, because of its excellent electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion and other required combinations of physical and chemical assets, gold also arose in the late 20th century as an important industrial metal. Gold accomplishes critical functions in dentistry and electronics, spacecraft, jet aircraft engines, and a list of other products.
Even though gold is vital to industry and the arts, it also holds an exclusive status among all commodities as a long-term store of value. It is one of the coinage metals and has functioned as a symbol of wealth and a store of value throughout history. Till recent times, it was measured essentially a financial metal, and most of the bullion manufactured each year went into the vaults of government treasuries or central banks.
Because of the malleability of pure (24k) gold, it is commonly alloyed with base metals for use in jewellery, changing its hardness and ductility, melting point, color and other assets. Alloys with lesser caratage, characteristically 22k, 18k, 14k or 10k, have higher percentages of copper, or other base metals or silver or palladium in the alloy. Copper is the most frequently used base metal, accommodating a 'redder' color.

About White Gold
The name 'White Gold' is used very freely in the gold industry to define karat gold alloys with a whitish tone. They believe that the color of the rhodium plating, which is what they see on many business-related pieces, is really the color of white gold. The phrase white covers a large spectrum of colors that borders or covers pale yellow, shaded brown, and even very soft rose. The jewellery industry every so often conceals these off-white colours by rhodium plating.
(Approximately one person in eight has a minor sensitive reaction to the nickel in some white gold alloys when put on over long periods of time. A normal reaction is a minor skin rash.)
