The story grabs you by the throat and takes you to worlds and universes so like our own - and yet so different. The adventure of Lyra and Pantaleimon as they fight for the things they love and believe in is a quest equal to that of Arthur and his knights.

The book was impressive, wrestling with incredible complexities and facing religion head on. The movie really let me down though. It tried so hard to be eye candy that it forgot to be intelligent. Or, it should have had the guts to be 3 hours long, instead of forsaking the best moments and concepts.
