His Dark Materials, a series of young adult novels by author Phillip Pullman are some of the most imaginative, amazing books to come along in a long time. And now, they are coming to a theatre near you. Starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, if the film is half as beautiful and as exciting as the movies, then we all definitely have something to look forward to.

I get chills just watching it! So many scenes from the books just pop out of the trailer alone. And Sam Elliot as Lee Scoresby is fantastic!!

Have You Read the Books?

If not, you must. If you are a Harry Potter fan, this will definitely replace the hole left behind by those books. These books are much more cerebral however. Full of allegory and vivid descriptions. Lyra, the main character, is a much more selfish (and more real, honestly) child than Harry. I'm sure that people are sick of all fantasy YA books being compared to Potter, but I find that many people find there way to more fantasy (both YA and adult) through Potter.

What would your Daemon be?

In the Dark Materials series, the humans have a Daemon, an animal companion which is a physical manifestation of their soul. As children, daemon's have the ability to change, but once a child is of age to know right from wrong, the daemon changes into a permanent manifestation that mirrors the personality of its owner.
