We had Goldens years ago. They are the best breed ever. We made lots of good memories together, and still miss them.
  • GRM May 21, 2012 @ 11:45 am | delete
Goldie really seems like a wonderful dog, and it comes across so clearly how much you loved him. I am a HUGE fan of Golden Retrievers -- they really are the best dogs ever!

What a wonderful story! It hurts when our pets pass away, it leaves a great big hole in our lives that, at the time, we feel can never be filled. Goldie was a big part of your life for 10 wonderful years and has left you with so many happy memories of your time together. Blessed!

I really 'get' this lens, having had and loved and been loved by a Golden. I've had numerous dogs of various breeds in my life, my Golden was my favorite. Couldn't ask for a sunnier disposition.
  • jasmineann Feb 18, 2012 @ 3:42 pm | delete
Yes a sunny disposition really sums up golden retrievers :) Thank you

What an absolutely beautiful lens! I feel so sad for your loss and yet I can't help but feel happiness over how much Goldie was loved and cared for. I also know how great golden retrievers can be. The one my parents have quickly makes her way into anyone's heart. I'm definitely lensrolling this over to my puppy's lens.

Hi JasmineAnn, Just wanted to say what a wonderful tribute to Goldie. It moved me and brought back memories of my to Golden Retrievers. My first I rescued and she was so adorable, but sadly died of cancer when she was also 10 years old and my 2nd Goldie died last year at only three and half years old, with liver problems and other issues, which were not picked up when we questioned changes in her. I absolutely adore Golden Retrievers and one day I will get another, but its stil so hard to get over the loss. But I have my very fond memories and pictures of them both. And to read your tribute was just so beautiful and so like a goldie. Thank you for sharing it. It made me cry and smile and bring back all the wonderful memories of joy at owning or being owned by a Golden Retriever.

I can tell that Goldie was a very special dog and made you very happy. We once had a Golden - named Baron. Baron loved everything and everyone, especially children (ours and others) and cats. We acquired a kitten about a year after Baron came to live with us and for 2 days the kitten 'hid' from DOG, but within a very short while Baron and 'Radar' were not only friends, they were playing and sleeping together. Golden Retrievers are the most loving and gentle of dogs. If I ever got another dog, it would be a Golden. Thanks for sharing your Goldie's story. It deserves a ~~SquidAngel Blessing~~

Maria, I am so sorry for your loss of your beautiful Goldie. I understand your tears...Your words touched me deeply and if I could give you a hug I would. I do not believe I will ever get over the loss of Goldie but I am learning to live with it and his life and his loss have become interwoven into our lives just as other animals and people who have passed have over the years. We now celebrate his life and this site was part of that, to share our memory of him as he loved everyone in life. The difficult and painful memories fade in time and the bright light of their lives shine through. Yes we will meet our Goldies again, they are happy, painfree and in spirit. They are always with us now you know. Know that I am thinking of you and wishing you peace. Hugs jasmine

From a golden owner, goldens do great in apartments to! I had to golends when I owned a home but I have had my last two in apartments as long as you can walk them or take them to a dog park they still will thrive, more than anything they just need to be with you. Consider adopting an older golden 6+ they are wonderful!

A very beautiful lens. I used to have a welsh terrier called Megan, she was my baby and a great little friend and companion. People used to say she looked like a teddy bear because she had curly wirey fur. She went everywhere with me. She passed away over ten years ago, but sometimes when I come home I still think she will be there. I still miss her.

Thanks for a wonderful story. I have a German Shepard named Thunder who was recently diagnosed with a dengerative disease. The vet has told us 3-6 months left. I have been heartbroken. We got Thunder when he was 10months old. I was concerned that he was too old to acclimate to our house and family. But he fell in love with my son when we first saw him so he came home with us. He was going to be put down if no one took him. He is the most wonderful dog ever - so many things you wrote about Goldie I could say about Thunder. He is the heart of the family! He loves people, he is so good. He is having a hard time walking and my husband and I have been discussing whether we are making him suffer due to our own selfishness. Thanks for giving me food for thought on this subject. I want to do the right thing for him - he has been the right thing for us for 11 years.

I could NOT believe what I was reading, as I too lost my golden lad (GOLDIE) to cancer. She was only 9 yrs old and my pride and joy, she was the most precious thing to me, and I have been lost without her. :(

It's been 3yrs and I am still not over nor will I ever the loss of her. I swear my GOLDIE looked so much like your dog, it is amazing. I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope as each day, goes by it get's alittle easier to live with.

We will see our GOLDIE"S again! God Bless you, and Thank you so much for sharing something so precious to your heart!

Being the proud parents of two beautiful, loving goldens (at separate times)....we commend you on your beautifl tribute to Goldie. Casey was our first golden and we lost him to cancer over 12 years ago. He was 12 years old at the time. he also went very peacefully. Jake was our next golden and we rescused him. He was approx. 3 years old when we got him and like you, it was love at first sight for us when we met him. He was a wonderful, loving, loyal dog. Jake liked alot of the same things that Goldie liked. We lost Jake also to cancer at 11 years old, that was 2 years ago in December. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thing of both of them. Sometimes my heart feels like it is going to break. I am not ready to do it again just yet. My husband and I keep saying we don't know if we could do it again. That remains to be seen. Anyway, I think we just wanted to say we are so sorry for your loss and enjoyed your tribute so much, Goldie would be proud!

I have such a lump in my throat after reading this most beautiful tribute to your dog. As my little fuzzy, Aspen, rests next to me, I am reminded we have to appreciate each day with our furry friends. Thank you for sharing your heart and love for Goldie, Aspen and I have lensrolled you, favorited you, 5-stared you, and if we could give you a hug, or in Aspen's case, a kiss on the cheek, we'd do that too. I lost my beautiful 6-1/2 year old golden to cancer on April 3rd of this year.

Losing him has been very hard on me. I too have his photo and box of ashes on my desk.

He was my beautiful companion and I feel that he watched over me. He would never leave my side and it is very hard to not have him next to me in body.

I am writing this with tears running down my face, because your story has brought my feelings to the surface again.

Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone in grieving for a beloved pet.

I knew I'd be balling my eyes out at the start of this lens. I have a beautiful mahogany colored Golden Retriever named Bailey Joy. She is just 9 months old and has attached herself to our hearts in the 3 months we've had her. We had to put down a Yellow Lab a few years ago and the grief from that loss almost kept me from getting Bailey. I didn't think I could take the pain again. But I took the risk and feel that it's better to have had the experience of 10-14 years of unconditional love and friendship and feel the pain of the eventual loss rather than miss out on all that "joy" that a dog gives to you. Goldens are just so loveable and intelligent. Your 'Goldie' was a beautiful one! He definitely reminds me of Bailey in so many ways - she loves to always have something in her mouth and she goes nuts when my husband returns from work, too. The lens you made in tribute of his life is 5 Star ! Thank you for all the great information.

You and Goldie will help many of us who have pets that may not be with us much longer. I have "Alex" a unconditionally loving German Shepherd who is 12 years old and coming into health issues and troubles getting around. I have been wondering just how I am going to handle it, you sharing so much will help me when the time comes. Thanks!!

I am writing this with tears in my eyes as your beautiful tribute has brought back so many memories of my own Goldens.

My parents used to breed and show them when I was a child and since I've had my own home, it has been shared by three lovely Goldens and now an Italian spinone.

It is devastating to lose a much loved companion and two of ours had cancer in the mouth and even when you have time to prepare, the savage pain overwhelms and sense of loss is overwhelming.

    God bless Goldie

And God bless J, S and W and all the goldens my parents owned. It's been a privilege to share your life and love.

Lovely, lovely lens. Thank you for sharing. I'm currently "mama" to two "goldies" and I empathize with your loss. I'm a dog lover - any dog, all dogs - but have to say there is simply nothing else like a Golden. Again, thanks.

This was awesome. It should have kleenex alert at the top though. Having lost many wonderful pets over my lifetime I can't help but remember them when I read a memorial to a pet. Good thing my kleenex was handy. Thanks for sharing such wonderful memories.

First, I congratulate your for your ability to write such a beautiful tribute lens for your gorgeous boy, Goldie. Secondly, thank you SO MUCH!!! My Shih Tzu, Louis, and I were at the vet's office just today when I was told to enjoy these final days and moments because he won't be around too much longer; he has diagnosed congestive heart failure. I've wondered, what will his final day be like? I've never had an ill dog before. So, I've also wondered, what can I do for him? How can I bless him one last time before he goes? So you see, you - with your award winning LOTD lens, "spoke to me" and has given me a guideline as to how to go about all of this. Quite honestly, I've avoided thinking past my questions, and I've felt riddled with guilt because of it. I know that I need to prepare for the inevitable but I've been scared and I've purposely put it off time and time again. I cried my eyes out as I read about Goldie's last day. Your lens gave me courage . Thank you. Goldie, R.I.P.

I had a golden Labrador named Goldie when I was a child. The most beautiful tempered pet a little boy could ever have. She and my parents friends golden Retriever "Buck" were the best of friends and Buck would walk 10 miles to our house just to visit. (No funny business they were both fixed)

It was just the cutest thing ever - A couple of best friends.

I miss Goldie, my kids would have loved her and her them.

I am crying so hard it is difficult to type. I love your Goldie, and all Golden Retrievers. I have had two. My Nicholas died of cancer as well. My Abigail is still with me but not for long, she is very old. I love your lens and your wonderful way of telling this story. Goldie would have been proud. thank you

I believe I referred to Goldie as a girl in my previous post at some point. Just want you to know that it's the name that throws me off and that it in no way means that I don't truly appreciate the wonderful life of Goldie that you have documented here. I do. This lens is beautiful. Love.
  • GrowWear Oct 27, 2008 @ 12:40 pm | delete
It was hard to read this lens through my tears. Goldie had a beautiful life. I am glad you got his life story down on this lens; I am glad to have gotten to know your sweet friend. Love.

I visited before and loved this lens. Now I can give it a SquidAngel blessing, much deserved. We had a Golden, too, named Maggie. No matter how much we've loved our subsequent dogs, Maggie was special and as close to the perfect pet as it gets. Thank you for sharing your heart and Goldie with us.

This is the first LOTD to make me cry! My parents have had golden retrievers since I was a teenager. Each one of them very different and all of them much loved. Two died before their time, one due to cancer - and it is heart breaking when it happens. Thank you for sharing Goldie's story.
  • CherylK Oct 27, 2008 @ 11:42 am | delete
I have never wept while reading a lens...until now. But I also laughed at some of the antics that were totally familiar to me. I grew up with a lovely Golden Retriever named Peggy. They are gentle, intelligent creatures. This is a beautiful tribute and you have earned far more than five stars.
  • GregGiordano Oct 27, 2008 @ 9:10 am | delete

I confess that I rarely comment on lenses. It takes all my time doing what I do online. But I stumbled upon this lens and I want to tell you that I think it is a wonderful tribute to love. Thank you for sharing your life with Goldie. When my husband was dying with cancer he kept telling our Monty (a cavalier king charles) that he had to hang in there for him. Monty went first and we were shattered but then I knew that he had simply gone ahead to wait for Darryl.

What a beautiful lens. It brought tears to my eyes. I have a chocolate lab mix. They are so loyal and intelligent. She follows me all around. What is so amazing is how they can read body language. She can put 2 and 2 together and know what I am about to do next. They are more intelligent than we give them credit for.

I was seriously laughing at some of Goldie's antics; my cousin got a Retriever puppy (who is now ~100 pounds and can kiss you on the mouth!) and he tends to start destroying the backyard, when he feels he is not receiving enough attention. Likewise, when he feels he is being ignored in the house, he will find something to steal, and a furious chase ensues! They are truly great dogs, I'm very sorry for your loss.

Oh, this is so beautifully done!! Thank you for a lovely and informative lens -- filled with love! We have had two goldens and both warmed our lives. CaddyJack died about 10 years ago. He was 12 years old. Caddy walked with my husband as he (husband) adjusted to worsening vision. Now we have Miss Hogan, who loves to walk and goes to the driving range with hubby. In our minds, she "takes care" of him. and yes, she brings home a prize every time they walk -- beer cans, shoes, whatever she finds is her treasure gift for us for the day. There cannot be a more loving breed than the golden retriever.

First glance on this lens, I thought that naming a Golder Retriever as Goldie is quite redundant. But after reading all your awesome post there is no other name that can give justice to your precious dog but Goldie. He means a lot to you and your family and is worth more than gold. Nice lens! I am sending 5 star to Goldie!

I'm typing while trying NOT to think of all the times I've been exactly where you were with Goldie.. So many dogs, so many horses..Dedicating the entire life to animals forces one to try and stay strong when they cross the rainbow bridge, but to me it never goes away. And you know, I thank God it never goes away, because the day I won't cry and feel when I learn a story such as Goldie's it will be the day I will have no feelings at all. If I could give you ten stars I would - take care :)

Goldie's lens was one of the first few in the Grief and Loss Club. As the anniversary of her departure approaches, you might want to peak at the Anniversary Reaction lens. Coping with the anniversary of the death of a loved one can be difficult for those left behind.

Hi Jasmine, I knew at the beginning of reading this that it would probably rip my heart, and it did; but I kept reading anyway. I'm still crying. This is a beautiful tribute to Goldie. Every dog owner who has loved can relate; and it doesn't take much for us to remember and cry about our loves that have passed on.
You are so right about Goldens. I believe they are a superb breed, and treasure my memories with my Teague of the Golden Lights and Golden Sheena.
