Playing Golf With No Fear (535 words)

When a good player begins to have problems, they are usually mental in nature. Clear thinking should be your main goal in playing golf. When you start to feel fearful, clear thinking is not possible.

If you can change your thinking, you can help your game. There is no need to worry about why the ball went the way it did. Keep your mind on the next shot and focus.

A major problem for some golfers is that they are worried what others will think if they make a bad shot. If you are concentrating on what others think, then you are not concentrating on your shot, the ball, your swing, or the basics.

Is it necessary to have the approval of others? Is hitting a bad shot going to completely ruin your life?

It is the theory of some psychologists that we become a composite of the five people that we are with the most. You may need to find more relaxed golfers to play and practice with.

If you play golf with a perfectionist, this may not be very much fun. Why ruin the golf game for yourself? Find people to play with that enjoy the game. The way you play will improve because you are having more fun, are less keyed up, and are able to swing better.

If you concentrate completely on your game, this can help you to beat your fear. Ben Hogan’s key to concentrate was “to ignore the gallery and the other golfers, and to shut my mind against everything but my own game.”

Worrying about what others think may make your game inconsistent. You are careful one second and aggressive the next.

What is the key? You need to focus on your target and not who you are with or where you are at. Ignore everything around you. Concentrate fully on your game.

Perfectionism can ruin your game enjoyment and cause ulcers. Great players rework their skills each year. They are always refining their game in little ways, which add up. You are not always going to play a great game and you will never play a perfect game no matter how many skills you master. If you will work to improve the little problems, then your golf game will get better and better.

Keeping a wide smile helps to relax your face and will help to decrease anxiety also. Make smiling a habit before you hit the ball instead of tensing your face.

Mistakes should stay in the past. Tiger Woods even says, “I hit it and forget it.” Forget about the shot and move on, because you cannot go back and replay it.

Keep your mind off what others will think about your shots. If you can get over that fear, then your game will definitely improve! When you play your next golf game, keep a clear mind and think confidently.

You will soon overcome your fear and become a master of golf!

Kids Basics For Golf (528 Words)

Making a child practice for hours and hours will quickly overwhelm a child. Let them practice for small amounts of time, such as 30 minutes, at first. This will help them stay motivated to practice.

Let them hit the ball hard at first. This will make it fun for them. Don’t stress about the correct grip when they are just beginning. Just show them how to keep the right hand under the left hand and let them swing away!

Also, encourage them to keep their feet on the ground during their follow through.

If you want to purchase a child’s set of golf clubs, that is okay, but a used set of women’s clubs will work just as well. They are light and will work great for kids. You only need a woman’s 6 iron, 9 iron, 3 wood, and a putter to start.

Let your child start by playing games chipping and putting. This will allow them to get the feel of the club and the ball. Kids will enjoy bouncing the ball off the wedge to try to hit leaves or twigs.

To keep them motivated, you might want to try some fun contests and games. You will want to avoid pressuring them too early. Allowing your child to enjoy the game will make them want to play instead getting frustrated and quitting.

Encourage your child and they will enjoy playing with you. If you start demanding them to win or overemphasizing competition, then will lose their interest in golf very fast.

Children will progress when they are ready to. If you will let them do this at their own pace, you can help prevent burnout. Don’t force a child to play golf. Playing golf should be fun and full of enjoyment. Have fun with them and playing golf!

If your child really seems to be interested in golf, then you may want to consider golf lessons or a golf camp especially for children. If you want a private instructor, make sure that you watch them teach children first. You want someone that will encourage your child and that is good at teaching children.

If is very important to teach your child golf etiquette. Teach them that it is not acceptable to talk when someone else is swinging. Stand still. Don’t walk in front of someone swinging. Don’t walk in front of someone’s line or through their line.

Don’t criticize them. Praise the shots and swings that they make. Encourage them in the correct methods, but don’t dwell on their incorrect shots.

If you completely focus on the important parts of golf – enjoying it and learning the basics – then you may have a child that can compete with you on the golf course and who enjoys golf for the rest of their life.

Frugal Golf (482 words)

Here is one example. Today I interviewed a local golf shop owner and we were talking about the new golf balls. He said that representatives from the different companies send him golf balls for his own use, hoping that they will be recommended to customers.

He went on to say that he has tried just about all of them and they pretty much play the same. After picking up the box of Titleist balls he said, “This one is probably the best.” The box he picked up cost $24.99 a dozen. Then he began laughing, picked up another box, and said that it was the best seller.

That box was $44.99 a dozen. I was surprised, but he explained that it is all hype. Because the balls cost more, people think that they will help them to play better.

The new hybrid ironwoods are available now. Will they really change your game or is it all marketing hype?

One marketer was heard to say that since the golf club market was so full of clubs, he priced his clubs three times what others’ cost. He sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of them. The golf clubs were not any more expensive to make than other clubs. It was a “marketing test” and people bought them like crazy!

Due to the fact that no two people play the same and everyone has a different build and golf swing, a product that may work for one player may not aid another player at all.

Consider something that you are good at that takes a piece of equipment. You are an expert in this area. Do you think anyone who attempts your job needs the same equipment as you? Will this mean that they are able to do the job just as well as you or even better?

That is something to think about. I like to garden and have a beautiful flower garden. I also have one or two tools that are thought to be the best. The other tools I use are just because they are the ones I always use.

This is why just because one golf professional buys one kind of product and plays well with it, does not mean that it will work great for you.

If you listen to the sales pitches, they tell you that you will be able to hit further and better if you give them lots of money. If you think clearly and with a little skepticism, you will save yourself money and time in the long run.

Keep a clear head when looking at golf products and keep in mind that more expensive does not necessarily mean that it is better.
