Golf Courses in the United States

Ranked #68,830 in Sports & Recreation, #1,588,810 overall

In the United States, the game of golf is one of the most popular sports.  Although traditionally geared towards men, women have picked up the sticks in droves over the last 20 years and hit the links.  With so many golf courses to choose from it is easy to see why more and more people are beginning to fall in love.

Every state offers several golf courses that cater to every player from amateurs to professionals. And in the more popular golf states such as South Carolina and Florida it is easy to find several courses all within a few miles of each other.

Players choose golf courses based on a number of different factors. To go along with experience and geographic location, details such as course difficulty and whether a course is public or private also come into play.  With so many factors, knowing which golf courses are available is essential to the golfer's success.

When it comes to public courses it does not get much better than Pebble Beach, located in Pebble Beach, California.  For nearly 100 years Pebble Beach has challenged players day in and day out.  Additionally, it has been the home to many of the top golf tournaments in the United States.

Pinehurst, located in Pinehurst, North Carolina, is also known to be tops when it comes to public courses in the United States.  Just like Pebble Beach, this golf course is rich in tradition and has hosted tournaments such as the U.S. Open.

Public golf courses can be played by anybody as long as they follow the rules that have been set forth. But on the other side of things the United States is home to thousands of private golf courses and clubs.  The only way that you can make your way onto one of these courses is to join the club, or be lucky enough to qualify for a tournament.

Year in and year out Pine Valley Golf Club, located in Pine Valley, New Jersey, hosts thousands of rounds of golf.  This club was founded in 1913, and since then has been known to be one of the most challenging in the world.

Another top notch private course is the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.  This exclusive club plays host to the PGA Tour Masters Tournament every year.  Making your way onto this course is no easy task as membership is invitation only, and fees are thought to range up to $50,000 per year.

The United States is home to hundreds of thousands of private and public golf courses. Any golfer, from amateur to professional status, can find a golf course that suits their needs.
