Golf for Kids - Why Is Golf a Super Sport for Children?
I know of no other game that has so much to offer your child and your family. It is my hope that the information provided here will introduce you to the benefits of Junior Golf.
The Family That Plays Together
Golf as a Family Sport
The game of golf provides a healthy outlet for the family. In our family, father, son, grandson can all enjoy the game together. Of course, in many families, mom, dad, sons, and daughters all play golf and enjoy the time together. Family Golf Tournaments are tons of fun!Our son, Randy, began playing golf before he was six years old and our grandchildren have followed in those footsteps. As a youngster, Randy not only played golf with his dad, but he enjoyed golf with his friends. As a teenager, he successfully played on the high school golf team, winning the South Carolina Junior Tournament one year. In college, he played on his college team. And now as a father and a businessman, he plays golf with his son, his dad, and his business associates and friends.
The Junior Golf Guide says "Studies have shown that children who have interacted with their parents in the early stages of life form a life-long bond." We agree.
Golf Requires Practice and Discipline
A child working on his golf game is not in front of a television - he is outside, having fun, and improving his skills.
Junior Golf Tip
Buy clubs designed for junior golfers. This is better for your child than cut-down adult clubs.

Junior Golf Tip
Contact your local golf professional at a golf shop or driving range. Junior Clinics are usually available at a reasonable price. Private lessons are $15-20 an hour in most locations.
Golf Etiquette
You have probably heard the phrase "Golf is a gentleman's game." Indeed it is. The rules of golf actually apply to life, too. As children learn the rules of golf, they learn:- Safety for themselves and other players - Be sure your opponent is at least 10 yards away from you before you swing.
- Respect for the game, themselves and their opponents -Golfers are rarely rude or loud.
- Good Sportsmanship and Integrity - In golf, players keep their own score. If you cheat, you are only cheating yourself and your game will never get better.
- Care of the golf course - Raking bunkers and fixing ball marks on greens
Junior Golf Tip
For a 6-10 year old, a 3 wood, 5, 7 and 9 iron and a putter are basic equipment.
After 10 years old, evaluate interest and ability before purchasing a complete set.
Golf Encourages Mutual Respect
If you need an excuse to spend some happy hours with your child, golf may just be the answer.
Let the professionals teach you and your child. Don't try to be the teacher. Encourage, but don't push. Teach your child to enjoy the game.
Do you encourage your child to play golf?
Are you considering golf for your child?

- Very nice lens Joan. I have a 6-year old daughter who is thinking of taking up golf and I couldn't be more proud. I agree with your tip - a 3 wood, 5, 7 and 9 iron and a putter are basic equipment (and good enough).
Proud father of a junior golf enthusiast

- My son started golf at an early age and now wants a career in golf, which hopefully he can achieve. I know exactly what you mean about how golf can impact on your life - and it can sometimes take over completely. Nice lens and congratulations on purple star!

- I cannot believe I missed this lens before and could not agree with the sentiments expressed in it more. Yes I encourage my child to play golf but it was a long time ago. He now has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and is busy at the moment trying to become a golf pro. Blessed by a sporting Angel.

- Darling shots of that little 'red-headed' junior golfer -- I take it he's your grandson! Excellent advice for children who are interested in learning to play golf -- like dad, and sometimes grandpa or other relatives. My brother loves to play golf and got interested because our dad did and he learned to enjoy it from him.

- Wow - from the photos it looks like your grandson has a really nice swing. My son plays golf too - he has his own set of clubs that his Grand-Dad bought for him. He went golfing with his Dad, Auntie and Grand-Dad a couple of weeks ago and went to a golf camp last summer. He really enjoys it!

- Wonderful topic, dear Joan! Golf is a wonderful sport for children and adults alike. The kids develop so many skills from this wonderfully fun game. My first husband and I golfed together and we taught our oldest daughter the game. Youngest just wasn't interested. I don't play any longer, that was another life but I do live on the 7th fairway so I haven't completely left the game. Your suggestion for the Jr clubs is an excellent one!

- One of the best things the new adopted father to one of my foster daughters did was to enroll her in golf lessons...that was 9 years ago and today they play together.

- No golfers are not normally rude or loud, but my Dad taught my son a few choice expressions when he was teaching him how to play golf. Then my brother taught my son a few choice words when he had the audacity to beat his Uncle aged just 14 :)
Lovely idea for a lens Joan and I love the picutres.

- Our kids participated in a golf clinic when they were younger. Not passionate players but they do still go out and play now and then. It is a valuable life time skill for sure!

- My sons both play golf. Our younger son took lessons through First Tee, which is an excellent program that I would highly recommend. (Thanks for including the link to our First Tee, chosen as the best First Tee program in the nation!) This is an excellent presentation of reasons why children should learn to play golf. Very well done!
