The Mental Game of Golf

What's the connection between golf and a mindset of success? If you've been golfing for any length of time, you already know that half the battle to having a good game is the one that plays out in your mind. Many things can sabotage your concentration including noisy golf mates, bad weather or a sore back thus affecting how you play. You might also find that mental distractions such as thoughts of failure are plaguing you. In other words, you want to hit the ball with the perfect swing, one that you have been able to perform many times in the past but for some reason, on this particular day, you feel less than confident about how you might hit the ball. You need to develop a golf mindset that brings you success.

The Mental Rehearsal of Success

You've heard about the mental rehearsal that many sports fanatics or professional athletes perform before they begin their game. And, you've most likely done those things yourself, with mixed results. If you're stressed, no amount of mental rehearsal will help you to play as you've envisioned. Add to that, negative emotions such as frustration about how you are performing and you've got a recipe for failure.

Confidence Grows Where Energy Flows

On the other hand, when you are feeling relaxed and confident, you perform better in golf or anything else for that matter. You are "in the flow" and are able to execute your mental rehearsals much more often. And, once you begin to play well, you generally continue to play well for the rest of the game because your confidence grows with each and every swing of your club.

Tap Away Your Stress

So, how do you better ensure that you can access that "in the flow" state so that you can play an awesome game of golf? One of the most effective means of mental training for golf that exists is a technique known as Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT. EFT involves tapping on certain acupressure points in order to bring the body back into balance and into a relaxed state. The process also involves working with the negative emotional charge that is associated with limiting beliefs about your ability to be successful. When negative emotions are neutralized, you naturally begin to feel more relaxed and confident. EFT can bring about permanent lasting change where your performance is concerned - whether that is on the golf course or in your professional life. And, rather than using your mental rehearsals with mixed results, you will begin to play as you've imagined.
