Golf Tees - The History of Golf Tees

Golf tees have not been around for that long compared to the game of golf. In 1889 the first documented patent for a golf tee appeared, it was made from rubber and the ball stood on 3 prongs, it was layed on the ground and did not stick in the ground as with most modern tees, it was a bit like the rubber winder tees you can get today.

In 1892 a patent for a teel which stuck in the ground was granted, it was a rubber tee with a metal spike. In 1897 the Victor tee included a cup shaped top to hold the ball, so came about the tee we all recognise and the modern tees of today are very similar to the victor tee, but with the technonolgy today they are all shapes and sizes, long, short, castle, winter and lots of others too numberous to mention.
