Golf Wedges
Making The Right Choice
For all of you who watch in awe when you see a player on TV hit the most amazing stroke where the ball stops right in front of the hole, the following few lines are just for you!
Their trick is really not hard to figure out. They have the appropriate wedge according to their game. If you are an intelligent player you will surely reap the benefits of these golf wedges which have improved vastly in the past few years.
Using a solitary wedge gives your opponents an undue advantage over you. You have to have wedges in your bag if you want to better your game. And this is no longer hard to accomplish.
Golf Wedges are generally of 4 different kinds. And they all occupy definite places in your golf bag as you can only play certain kinds of shots with each. The wedges are the following:-
Pitching Wedge - This is the most important wedge to have in your bag and is the one wedge which is found in every golf bag. You use this club when you hit your shot from a distance of not more than 125 yards from the pin. These clubs usually have a loft from 46 to 50 degrees. Remember, that normally this wedge is the longest distance wedge that you would possess.
Gap Wedge - This club comes in between the pitching and the sand wedges. It usually has a loft of about 50 to 54 degrees. But even though it is efficient, this club is almost always left out because of its late entry into the arena of golf. Don't make that mistake yourself. You should be able to find these clubs being sold individually in your local sports equipment shop.
Sand Wedge - This wedge has a very deceptive name. Unlike what its title says, a sand wedge is not for use only on sand. This very efficient club has a loft between 55 to 59 degrees. You can use it to hit strokes from 90 yards way from the pin. This is inclusive of the sand traps. This club also gives you an amazing control over spinning and stopping. If you don't get it included in your set of clubs, you should try your local dealer.
Lob Wedge - These are clubs that you get separately from your local shop and you can have a lot of fun using them. They are usually useful when you want to stop that shorter but high stroke very quickly. It is also needed when you want your stroke to go around the green. It has a loft of 60 to 64 degrees.
Generally, golf experts ask you to have a difference of 4 degrees between the loft of your wedges. In other words, the pitching and the gap wedge should be 4 degrees apart, the gap and the sand wedge should be 4 degrees apart and so on.
Keep these basic instructions in mind while choosing the wedges and watch your game improve by leaps and bounds.
