The process of making one of these golf ball carvings, is pretty straight forward.

Each golf ball is meticulously hand carved and hand painted to create a unique, one of a kind piece you can cherish for years to come. There is a lot of time and work that goes into giving each one its own individuality. Although some of the initial concepts may be the same, no two golf balls are exactly alike. I have looked into the possibility of mass production as a potential to put these on the shelves of all of your favorite shopping destinations, but I do not believe there is a way of making this a reality. So for now, you can enjoy their beauty and uniqueness as I hand create each one just for you.

Each golf ball requires several hours of sometimes pain staking work to add the fine touches to these miniature marvels. It all starts with a standard TopFlite XL golf ball that can be purchased from any sporting goods retailer. In order to begin the carvings, I first need to gain access to the core of the ball. This is usually done by drilling a 7/8" hole through the outer shell of the ball creating the opening, to put it into perspective this hole is about the size of a standard quarter.

With chisels in hand, I am now ready to begin carving the scene inside the ball. I use miniature wood carving chisels that can be purchased at many craft and tool suppliers in conjunction with a set of dental tools for gaining access to the smallest of spaces. Once the bulk of each scene has been formed, I then am able to begin adding fine details to people, trees and other attributes that make these unique.

At the end of the carving process, each golf ball is ready for paint. Using a set of artist brushes and toothpicks, acrylic paints in a rainbow of colors are applied, bringing these fantasy worlds to life. The toothpicks are often used to add the smallest details to each piece. After all, its not easy to add eyes to a character that is only a 1/4" tall.

After carving and paint the golf balls are ready for final touch-ups and shipment to the customer. Some are given a hook and instantly transformed into decorative Christmas ornaments, while others are displayed prominently on a handmade stand. However you choose to display your golf ball, you can rest assure that you will be receiving a one of a kind keepsake you and your family will cherish.
