Golf Drives Too Short?
Ranked #49,590 in Sports & Recreation, #1,076,818 overall
Are Your Golf Drives Too Short Off The Tee?
Well, mine were until I made a few simple changes and then I started hitting longer drives. The drive is the first shot to most of the eighteen holes on the course, and you are hitting that club because you need greater distance so as to get as near to the hole as possible to set yourself up for an easy second shot to the hole.
Many times short drives leave a lot of yardage to cover, on the par fives especially. What is most maddening about the golf game is you know you can hit your drives longer, but for some reason it just does not happen.
The result of short drives off the tee is frustration and that is negative. The good news is everyone can learn how to get more distance off the tee, and that is the focus of this lens.
Imagine the look on your buddies faces when you outdrive then off the tee!

Short Golf Drives - The Problem
Why Can't I Hit My Drives Further?
The handicap golfer lacks distance off the tee and this leads to frustration and somestimes anger with him or herself, for not hitting the ball far enough.
It can be quite humiliating sometimes when someone who is all skin and bone knocks their drive effortlessly twenty yards past the other guy who is big and muscular.
What is happening?
The golf swing drive is not about brute strength and a fast swing. Timing is the key. At least it is one of the factors involved.
The golf swing is a quite complex movement which involves the coordination of the arms, legs, wrists, hand, etc. And all this needs to come together exactly at impact else the result is a wayward golf shot.

Lack Of Distance Off The Tee - What Can I Do About It?
Get more distance off the tee
You can start by goiing back to the fundamentals of the game, beginning with the grip. Bear in mind the driver is the longest golf club in the bag and the one with the least amount of loft on the clubface, which taken together mean it is a difficult club to hit consistently well. And club golfers know this all too well.
Do not stand too close to the ball. The feet should be wider apart than the width of the shoulders at the address, and do not stand too close to the ball, as you will compensate for this on the downswing and the resulting shot will be off target.
Don't try and scoop the ball in the air. Rather concentrate on taking the club back slowly, with the arms straight, and wind the body up into a coil, culminating at the top of the backswing.

I'm At The Top Of My Backswing - Now What Do I Do?
Secrets of long driving
You do not need to take the hands much past the shoulders on the way back, but obviously that is something you can experiment with at your lesiure.
Pause at the top of the backswing, but only briefly, and then unwind your wrists and hands when they are at waist height. Whip them through the ball and make sure you have a long follow through, and you are looking at the spot where the ball was after you have hit it.
At least by ensuring the fundamentals are correct you are giving yourself every chance of a good, solid drive.
