How Doing Golf Fitness Training Kept Me From Giving Up the Game and Taking Up Bowling 

The Story

About 10 years ago I took up the game of golf. At that time I played quite a few rounds with my youngest son who was then 17 years old and had been playing golf for about 5 years. At that time he was taking lessons twice a week and every time we played he would teach me what he was learning. Over time, both of our games improved considerably, especially his. Him being young, flexible and in shape, I enjoyed watching his game develop to the point of being able to make drives that flew down the center of the fairway 250, 275 and quite a few times 300 yards. Last summer after playing with my son for almost 10 years, he finally said to me, Dad, what is happing to your game!? Knowing perfectly well what he was talking about I pretended that I didn't know what he was talking about. I had been aware for a couple of years my game had been going down hill. I had privately been sneaking off to the driving range and occasionally taking a lesson, but my game was still going in the wrong direction. So I said to my son, what are you talking about, and he replied, Dad, if your game gets any worse, maybe you should consider giving up golf and taking up bowling! Nice son, eh!?

The Analysis

So after talking about it for several days we decided we would make a video recording of my game the next time we played, remembering we did this several years ago just for the fun of it. Off we went to our favorite course a week later. Wow, what a shock when we compared the two videos. The first thing we discovered was I had put on a few pounds around my mid-section. The next discovery was my stance and alignment to the ball was still correct and hadn't changed much. But the big discovery was the movements of my body throughout the whole sing. Over time, from not being as active and thin as I used to be, I lost a lot of my flexibility in my waist, hips and shoulders. Hence the reason for the next day lower back pain and the extremely poor golf swing I had developed.

Getting Results

Now the big question was, how do I repair the neglect I had given to my body that so effected my game. About two weeks later, my son called me after discussing this situation with several of his golfing buddies. He told me about a solution one of his buddies father had found. He said one of his buddy's fathers who was experiencing the same scenario about a year ago found an e-book called Golf Ftiness Guide and claimed this book turned his game back around. Being skeptical about how doing golf fitness training could possibly help me improve my game, my son put me in touch with his buddy's father. After a lengthy conversation, I was convinced I should give this book a try. I purchased the e-book in January and started following the exercises and trainings. In June I saw my son for the first time in two months and we played our first round of golf together for the year. On the third hole he remarked to me about how thin my mid-section was looking; on the fourth hole he snidely remarked, "Been practicing much?" and on the fifth hole he said, "It feels like I'm playing golf with my father again."

Back In The game!

I was never a great golfer, but I sure enjoy the game. When my game worsened from the mid 90's to around 104 it was discouraging. I needed to do something and following the golf fitness training program did the trick for me. Since following the program, not only have I got back to where I was, but I am now playing around "bogie" golf. You may be facing the same with your game and your buddy might, too.
