How About A Golf Vacation That Caters To Women?

As an avid traveler and golfer, golf vacations are a keen interest of mine.  What I have noticed is that there are very few courses and packages designed to cater to women.

So, I set out on a quest to find the most "women friendly" courses and vacation packages.  I think you will enjoy these finds.  I hope they are helpful in planning your next golf vacation!

Top Women's Golf Vacations

1. Kiawah Island Golf Resort and The Sactuary Hotel

Many herald Kiawah Island as having the finest selection of golf courses in the country. I couldn't agree more. Currently, The Osprey Point course is listed at No. 10 in Golf for Women Magazine's "Top 50 Courses for Women." The famed Ocean Course has been on the list in the past as well. Minutes away from Charleston, SC, along the beautiful east coast and basked with sun and southern hospitality, this golf vacation destination ranks at the top!

If possible, I highly recommend staying at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. It opened in 2004 and I was able to be one of first guests to stay in the hotel. Luxury, style and service are evident everywhere, and the view from your room is breathtaking. The Sanctuary has already accumulated numerous awards, including being named one of North America's Top 10 resorts by Conde Nast Traveler.

If you like fine dining, The Charleston Post and Courier recently named The Ocean Room at The Sanctuary "Restaurant of the Year". The resort also has a luxury spa, tennis and shopping.

They have incredible packages specifically designed for women! It is 5 Stars in every catagory.

2. Pine Needles Lodge And GC And Mid Pines GC And Inn

I'm sorry, I admit I am partial to the Carolina's. My husband is a Duke graduate, and I love them for the beautiful weather, scenery and golf!

Not to be outdone by their legendary neighbor Pinehurst Resort, Pine Needles Lodge and GC and Mid Pines Inn and GC have a long history and have won many awards of their own. They were designed by one of golf's most famous designers, Donald Russ, who also designed the courses at Pinehurst. With such a reputation, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that both courses are very playable for golfers at any level. Pine Needles Lodge & GC ranks No. 2 in Golf for Women's list of "Top Courses for Women." The Pine Needles course will host the 2007 US Women's Open. This is just one statement of their commitment to women's golf.

Their Ladies Only sessions are world-respected and have established Pine Needles as a leader in women's instruction!

The Golfari is the registered name for Peggy Kirk Bell's "Safari of Golf"-an expedition to Pine Needles for golfers who are interested in improving their game while having fun. On-tee instruction-irons, woods, putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, trouble shots and on-course instruction are all waiting for you during your Golfari adventure. Golfers of all levels are welcome to attend any of their Golfaris.

What's included:

Four nights' accommodations, three meals daily (beginning with lunch on arrival and ending with lunch on departure), all instruction, green fees with carts, a Golfari welcome gift, personalized take-home instruction video with drills, evening activities, welcome and farewell cocktail parties, all service charges and taxes.

As long as you are in the area, you absolutely MUST play at Pinehurst and stay at the Holly Inn! You simply cannot explain the ambience of playing on courses with such rich history and tradition. Oh, and the spectacular spa is a plus too! The picture above is actually at Pinehurst on Course #8, which is highly recommended for ladies.

The Greenbrier - White Sulphur Springs, WV

The Greenbrier is an award-winning resort located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. A National Historic landmark, The Greenbrier represents 227 years of history with its classic architecture, exquisite interior design, carefully sculpted landscape, impeccable service and outstanding amenities.

With over 50 recreational activities, including three championship golf courses and a 40,000 square foot spa, you will find there isn't enough time in the day to enjoy all of the activities and amenities that are offered. Whether it is a "girls golf weekend," a family vacation or a romantic getaway, The Greenbrier makes it a memorable vacation!

The Greenbrier - Old White course is listed No. 4 in Golf for Women's "Top 50 Courses for Women." The course has breathtaking views, and from the forward tees, you don't have to deal with forced carries. What more do you need for an enjoyable round of golf? The famous Greenbrier Golf Digest Academy provides the best in golf instruction. And best of all, after 4:00 p.m., a family can play for one green fee!

The Greenbrier caters to women in a variety of ways, from spa packages to health and fitness packages to their "Women's Wonderful Weekend." This is a four-day rejuvenating weekend designed especially for women.

The Greenbrier's famous sulphur springs serve as the inspiration behind The Greenbrier Spa's nature-based treatments. Try a Sulphur Soak, Detoxifying Mud Wrap or a ThermaStone Massage. Their holistic therapies provide a rejuvenating experience by using the healing powers of natural essences and minerals.

One more outstanding amenity is the world renowned Greenbrier Clinic. Here you can receive a comprehensive diagnostic and preventive health workup as well as comprehensive laser and aesthetic services.

This destination really has it all. The really enticing thing to me is the opportunity for pampering and real solitude!
