Golfing in New Mexico Has All Types of Courses

Northern section for golf New Mexico: Taos Country Club, Black Mesa Golf Club near Espanola and Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe are all modified desert-links courses winding across the high plateau. Angel Fire golf club is a great mountain course that is just east of Taos. The Trent Jones family name is no stranger to New Mexico golf. Just south of Santa Fe is Pueblo de Cochiti golf course. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., but has recently been updated by his son, Robert Trent Jones III.

golf in new mexico 2Golf in New Mexico's central area: On the other side of the Sandia mountains located east of Albuquerque is the crown jewel of the central golf courses which is Paa-Ko ridge golf club. North of town are several of the finest resort courses in the state, they are Santa Ana golf club, its sister course and the host of the 2009 Professional club pros championship Twin Warriors golf club and finally is Sandia golf club.

Located just a short distance from the airport is the University of New Mexico Championship golf course. The NCAA has visited this course in the past because of the hilly challenges that the course presents. The 27 hole master piece located just 7 minutes south on Interstate 25 is the Isleta Casino & Resort's, Isleta Eagle golf course.

Souteast Section for Golfing in New Mexico

Golf in New Mexico's Southeast section: Remember Billy the Kid, well Lincoln county N.M. is where he roomed. Ruidoso is in the middle of where Billy did most of his gun slinging. Nearby are the Links at Sierra Blanca, Rainmakers, Cree Meadows and the Inn of the Mountain Gods, a Ted Robinson design.

All are mountain courses rising and falling through Ponderosa pines. Roswell, NM was made famous when the aliens crashed there space ship back in 1947. Also located here are New Mexico Military Institute and Spring River golf course. In the town made famous by the caverns, Carlsbad host a great muni course called the Lake Carlsbad golf course.

Golf New Mexico - Southern Region

golf in new mexico 3Golfing in New Mexico's Southern section: Between Las Cruces and Socorro, N.M., lie a handful of true bargains, starting with New Mexico Tech Golf Course, a tight parkland layout in Socorro. Down the Interstate south from Socorro is Elephant Butte, NM and the Sierra del Rio golf course that is in the folds of the Sonorran Desert.

Traveling south from Elephant Butte to Las Cruces we have the New Mexico State University golf course and the Sonoma Ranch Golf club. In nearby El Paso, Texas, is Butterfield Trail, the only Tom Fazio design for hundreds of miles in all directions.

There are other great golf courses located in some out of the way places in New Mexico: Pinon Hills Golf Course in Farmington, N.M., in the Four Corners area; Silver City Golf Course in the Southwest New Mexico; go 40 miles west from Albuquerque along I 40 is Grants New Mexico and Coyote del Malpais golf course.
