Golf Putting Techniques | Stop Wasting Strokes on the Putting Green

Are you looking for golf putting techniques to help you reduce strokes off your total golf game? I will admit, the biggest weakness in my golf game was putting the ball. While I spent tons of time at driving ranges learning how to crush 270 to 300 yard drives, I never spent much time learning how to putt correctly. The result was predictable: I was out-driving everyone all day long, and still getting it handed to me by 10 strokes because I would 3 and four putt almost every green!

Fed up with always having to buy rounds at the 19th hole, I decided to try and fix my putting game once and for all. I spent about $500 on lessons specifically geared to putting. We looked at all the various techniques of grip, stance, and stroke. At the end of it, I was no longer getting beat by 10 strokes. Now it was more like 7 or 8 strokes. Not good enough.

So I started trying to find alternative methods of golf putting techniques, and that is what led me to the internet and a system for putting that is so simple, yet was so good that I made up those 8 strokes and then some! People were now buying ME rounds at the 19th hole, and I liked it!

Using the simple techniques I found at MasterYourPutt.com I was able to shave 10 stroked off my game - fast.

Can My Grip Really Impact My Golf Putting Techniques?

Perhaps my biggest issue in overcoming my shortfall on the putting green was my grip. While there are many other factors that needed work, I realized that my grip was simply killing my putting technique.

I was using a standard, interlace grip for putting, very similar to my grip for driving the ball. This was a huge mistake! I learned that I was actually setting myself up to not strike the ball smoothly in my putting stroke using this grip.

The result was most of my putts where bouncing heavily upon impact and never had a chance to follow the line that I had envisioned. Of course, the ball would merrily skip past the hole, and normally by about a good 10 to 15 feet, leaving an impossible return shot.

Learning the right grip for putting was a major breakthrough for me, and one of the biggest keys to being able to reduce those strokes off my scorecard. Too many people think that putting is easy, and that any old golf putting technique will work. That thinking is just plain incorrect.

When I discovered the strategy on how to grip a putter, I was amazed at how much more efficient I became. You can see these same strategies I found by visiting MasterYourPutt.com.

What Are The Most Important Steps In Golf Putting Techniques?

Here are the most important factors to consider when learning your new golf putting techniques. Each one plays an important role. Chances are, you do some of these very well, and some not so well. Learning how to do them ALL well was the key to reducing double digits off my score!
  • Putting Body Alignment - Your body alignment is a critical factor to consider when putting. Many people will align their feet and shoulders based on where they are standing. This is a critical error.
Instead, think about how the ball is laying and the slope of the ground the ball is on. The few inches between you and the ball can be a dramatic difference in terms of slope and ball roll path.
  • Putter Grip Style- As I mentioned earlier, learning then proper grip for putting is what made the biggest different for me. I was using the same standard, interlace grip I used for driving as I was for putting. This was a big mistake for me. After I read the information at MasterYourPutt.com I was able to immediately take strokes off my putting game.
  • Reading the Green - Reading the green for proper break and speed is another aspect of putting that can make a different in what golf putting technique you use. Have you ever lined up with complete confidence you have read the green correctly, and struck the ball smoothly, only to see it slide by the cup and leave you with a 5 footer coming back? Happened to me all the time! Turns out, I was not reading the green correctly and was not lining up to compensate correctly.
  • How I Finally Cracked 80 - I finally cracked 80 on the golf course when I learned to putt correctly. It was not as easy as I thought it would be, but using the tips and tricks I found at MasterYourPutt.com i realized all the simple mistakes I was making, and learned how to correct them quickly.
