I spent A LOT of time looking for golf tips to cure the slice that I had developed over the years. I was so sick of looking for my balls in the weeds, or quietly cringing while I listened for the ball to bounce off 6 or 7 parts of a house before coming to rest on their patio!

Understanding how the club follows our "slicer's" swing path is the first step to fixing the slice. Secondly, using some good tips to correct your swing path will get you hitting straight in no time! Golf Tips To Cure The Slice - You Are Too "Weak"?

Who-you-callin'-weak-Willis?

Okay, you aren't too weak...your grip is too weak! What does that mean exactly? Go ahead and take a look at your normal golf grip...Maybe grab a club now (or a pen or pencil) and take your grip. Actually extend your arms downward as if you are getting ready to hit a shot.

1) Right Hand Grip: A "neutral" right hand (a grip that is not "strong" nor "weak") should have the crease between your thumb and forefinger pointing towards your right shoulder.

2) Left Hand Grip: A "neutral" left hand grip should have you looking at about 2 to 2 and 1/2 knuckles on the back of your left hand.

This is the "perfect" grip that most golf professionals would teach a beginner.

A WEAK grip is when your hands (or maybe only one of your hands...it only takes one of them to be off!) are rotated to the left too much when you grip the club.

So my grip is weak...so what? Bringing your grip back to neutral when you grip the club is one of the basic tips to cure the slice. Why? Because this "nuetral" grip is most likely where your hands will be at the exact time of impact!

So if your hands naturally come to this neutral position at impact, but you have held the club with a weak grip from the beginning, then the club will be facing to the right at impact, right? SO, we start hitting the ball right, and we try to compensate by swinging to the left, and this makes a SLICE.

More Golf Tips To Cure The Slice - The Second Part Of The "Slice Equation"

A "Weak(er)" Grip Is The First Of Two Causes That Combine To Create A Slice...Now Let's Talk About Swing Path

A weak grip alone will not cause a slice. It will however create a shot that goes high, weak, and to the right.

When we hit these weak, high and right shots, we slicers will tend to swing harder and to the left, creating a left to right spin...and there we have our "power-slice".

You have probably heard this golf tip to cure the slice..."You are coming over the top". This is what we are talking about here. It is a sub-conscious thought of I don't want to hit it right, so I'm going to swing left that creates a swing path that starts from "outside to in". "Outside to in" means that the club goes along a path that is "outside" of the target line (the line straight to the target), and then cuts across the ball to the inside of the target line for the follow through.

Knowing that grip and swing path are the causes of a slice is so important!

Knowing of course is only "half the battle" (GI Joe wisdom...). Now how do we stop ourselves from causing a slice? Well, we need drills to ingrain the new swing path. Changing the grip is a simple enough.

Cure The Slice With A Swing Trainer?

A Swing Trainer Can Really Help Muscle Memory

I used the Medicus "dual-hinge" club to get me swinging on the right swing path. It wasn't enough for me to know what I needed to do...I needed something to FORCE me to do it. The Medicus was perfect for me because you can't even hit a ball unless you swing on the right path! Here is the link below, I would recommend it (and have!) to anyone who plays golf at any level.

Golf Tips To Cure The Slice - WAITER!! Check (the right elbow) Please!

This Is A Simple Way To Fix The Swing Path.

Picture yourself carrying a tray of wineglasses up by your shoulder with your right arm. This is the feeling you want to have with your right arm on the back-swing. This will keep your swing on-plane and therefore on the correct swing path.

Slicers tend to "flare out" their right elbow in the top of their swing! As a waiter, this would cause a bad situation ending up in some broken glasses... As a golfer this can cause an outside to in swing path, that we all know now causes a slice!

Check it in a mirror. Do you "flare your elbow" at the top swing? Could you put a tray on your right hand and hold it level?

This is one of many golf tips to cure the slice that I find easy to picture in my mind. I recommend checking out BestSliceCure.com for some great ways to fix your slice and really improve your game. It sure saved my golf game! I know it can help yours.
