About caricatures

I have been drawing caricatures of people for 20 years. Up until about 3 years ago, it was more of a sideline than an actual profession. All of that changed once I attended my first NCN caricature convention. The NCN stands for the National Caricaturist Network. It's a trade association for artists who love to draw exaggerated faces.

Once I attended my first convention, my whole life changed. I saw just how talented many of these artists are. I learned how many have made a business out of it by selling their work at theme parks and zoos. I realized for the first time that my skillset wasn't just sideshow entertainment. I realized that caricature illustration was a true artform. I am still learning more and more about it daily. My hope is to help educate the public on what it is that makes this unique artform so special.

Al Hirschfeld
Albert Hirschfeld (June 21, 1903 - January 20, 2003) was an American caricaturist, best known for his simple black and white satirical portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars. Hirschfeld's art style is unique, and he is considered to be one of the most important figures in contemporary caricature, having influenced countless cartoonists. Hirschfeld's caricatures are almost always drawings of pure line, with simple black ink on white paper, with little to no shading or cross-hatching. Permanent collections of Hirschfeld's work appear at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Sebastian Kreuger
Sebastian Krüger was born on June 30, 1963, in Hameln. After finishing school in 1982, he studied free painting at the academy of graphic arts in Brunswick. Since 1986 the artist has been working as a self-employed caricaturist, illustrator and painter. In 1989 the first publications of his works were issued with more to follow. Krüger Art Calendars have been available since 1992. He has created cover pages for magazines such as Stern, Der Spiegel, Capital, Musik-Express/Sounds, Kowalski, Petra, L'Espresso, and has done featured art for Playboy and Penthouse. Furthermore, Krüger has designed covers for LPs and CDs. His works on the Rolling Stones and other stars were exhibited in Germany and abroad. Krüger has had a very special personal friendship with the Rolling Stones for many years. The artist lives near Hanover.
Tom Richmond Illustration
In 1998 Tom Richmond discovered the "National Caricaturist Network", an organization of professional caricaturists. Tom joined the NCN and attended his first convention in Las Vegas that winter. In the years since, he has been honored with several awards from the organization including the Golden Nosey for "Caricaturist of the Year" in 1998 and 1999. He also served as president of the NCN for two years. Tom also revived a life-long dream during this time: to draw for MAD Magazine. Tom works in a studio in his home in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Stephen Silver
Aspiring to be a professional artist my whole life, I first got involved in drawing at the age of six when I found an artist's original sketchbook laying in my back yard. From that point on I knew that drawing would be my purpose in life. In 1992 I got my professional start drawing caricatures at amusement parks and then went on to establish my own illustration business and caricature concession company called Silvertoons. In 1996 I was hired as a graphic designer for the clothing company "No Fear". Then, in 1997 was hired at Warner Bros. Television Animaton as a character designer and have been working in the animation industry ever since. I enjoy the art of character design so much, that I have also gone on to teach the art form part time. I believe there are three treasures to success in life: Determination, Passion and Desire. These are the three rules I live by, thereby giving me what it takes to keep on drawing. I hope my artwork inspires you, like so many other artists works have inspired me.

MI-Lee

I've been a member of the NCN since 1993, and I'd like to say that old guys like me (I've been drawing caricatures since the 1950s) are inspired by the enthuiasm and collegiality of the younger fellows (and women). I've attended five of the conventions and have enjoyed learning a lot about the art!

About GoofyFaces

Hi. My name is Robert Bauer and I am an artist. I spend most of my time drawing caricatures as entertainment and gifts. I have drawn over 15,000 caricatures since 1987. I own and operate a caricature company called Goofy Faces. I started my company back in 2000 as a website where people could order a caricature online. Now, I receive orders from around the world and we hire out other caricature artists nationwide as entertainment. My own illustrations have been seen in national magazines and commissioned by Fortune 500 companies such as DaimlerChrysler, Kmart, Little Caesars, Ford Motor Company and General Motors. I graduated from Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota Florida back in 1990 as a computer graphics major. Now I spend most of my day drawing at my art table or coloring on the computer.
