Have a Good Online Marketing Strategy

One of the most useful internet marketing tools to date is Google's AdWords. This tool allows you to promote your company to web users through advertisements, both on Google, and on others sites that feature another neat service from Google called AdSense. We'll take a look at AdSense another day.

Rank FirstEssentially your goal is to outrank everyone else. In order to rank first you need to select the right keywords, creating a quality advertisement, adjusting your bids and budget, improving your website, and tracking your performance.

Getting Started

But before you begin creating your advertisement you need to set up an account. Once your account is setup be sure to make your way through AdWords tutorials. Boring!!! Believe me this will save you time and money in the long run. Though it's not rocket science, Google AdWords can take a bit of getting use to.

Selecting Keywords

The World Is Your OysterOnce you've made your way through the tutorials it's time to create your advertisement. Firstly you need to select your keywords. If you are unsure which keywords to focus on, make your way to Google's Keyword Tool to identify key search terms that are relevant to what you're promoting. The Keyword Tool will let you know how popular and competitive each search term is. By focusing on specific search terms you are not only targeting users who are more likely to be interested in your products and services, your adverts will achieve higher rankings and cost less if they're vastly targeted to your clientele. Don't forget, just as you can target your advert to specific users, you can also target specific locations. You can go global, or stick with a local market, the world is your oyster.

Creating Quality Advertisments

Once you've established you search terms it's time to create your QUALITY advertisement. How? To name a few, put keywords in your adverts to grab a user's attention, send customers to the exact page on your website where the product or service you're advertising features and close the deal with calls to action. A quality advertisement is really important. If more users click on your advert then not, your web traffic not only increases, but it also helps your advert to rank higher than adverts that aren't clicked on as often.

Budget & Bidding Strategy

BudgetIt's now time to develop your budget and bidding strategy. You can use Google's Traffic Estimator to help estimate the average cost per click and how many times your search terms are clicked on. Or you can set your bid amount to auto and Google will do all the work for you. One of the main benefits of using AdWords is that it works on a pay per click (PPC) basis. This means that you only pay according to how many people click on your advertisements. Pay per click (PPC) can be a really cost effective way of advertising, particularly if you are a small business on a budget.

Tracking Your Campaign

Last but not least it's time to track your campaign. There are a couple of ways you can track and measure the success of your Goggle AdWords campaign. You can set up conversation tracking, use Google Analytics with AdWords and use Google's Conversion Optimizer Tool. To learn more about measuring your campaigns success be sure to visit Google AdWords Small Business Centre.

No Minimum Commitments

Best of all there are no minimum commitments with Google AdWords, so you aren't tied into a contract. This is great if you are looking for flexibility in your online marketing strategies and, as there's no formal commitment, it means that ultimately you are the one in control.
