OK I figured out how to enter ONE code for all Squidoo lenses, you had that specific info here - just missed it 1st time, my bad. Thanks SO much, Fluff
  • crosscreations Oct 6, 2011 @ 8:18 am | delete
Thanks so much for this tutorial about setting up google analytics on lenses. I'm working on it and was hoping the basic code might work for all Squidoo lenses since I do have pretty many of them, but it looks like I'll need to register each and every one of them with that -1 or -2 etc at the end of the code. Might just register my top few lenses for now, thx.

This is awesome. I already use Analytics on my sites. The main use is to track what keywords are bringing in search engine traffic, research those keywords to see if they are a high search keyword, and if so, try to further enhance the site for those keywords to increase ranking.
  • the-philosopher Jul 25, 2011 @ 11:16 pm | delete

But I learned so much more from your lens. I didn't know that Squidoo was sending Google event data for analytics reporting. This is priceless! I get so much useful information from that report. Thank you!

  • BrooklynBeka Dec 3, 2010 @ 5:02 pm | delete
Thanks so much for providing this Lens! I was just trying to install it and decided to do a Squidoo search! How handy of you! Now...I have a couple of questions if you don't mind:

So, is there a short answer as to how it finds me specifically? I am understanding correctly that it must go out and find the pages with my ID in it?

Is it typical that the Google Analytics site/check status doesn't show it as installed this way?

    Thanks again!
PS. to the user who said it was sad that we couldn't see keywords this way....at least we have the Squidoo tracking that tells us that much!
  • thefluffanutta Dec 3, 2010 @ 6:14 pm | delete
Everytime someone visits one of your lenses, the special code you added informs Google about that visits. It can take a day or two for Google to start collecting data for your lenses, so check back later.
  • BrooklynBeka Dec 22, 2010 @ 11:04 am | delete
I must have done it wrong no tracking has shown up in analytics....hmmmmpig
  • JaguarJulie Nov 27, 2010 @ 10:48 am | delete
Ah, Tim! That Google is truly amazing - I live FOR Google ... hmmm, wonder if they have a "job" for me! Now that would be pretty cool, analytically speaking.
  • brittzy Nov 27, 2010 @ 12:11 am | delete
do you set it up by using the exact same img code that you have, and just replace the ID number with my website ID?
  • thefluffanutta Nov 27, 2010 @ 5:56 am | delete
Yup. Your code will look something like UA-123456-12.
  • indigogirl Nov 24, 2010 @ 6:20 pm | delete
Thanks, I wondered if you could do this but it never seemed to get to the top of my to do list! Now I can just go do it without any further investigation : )

You rock. Again. I know I need to start paying attention to this ... maybe this is the little push I need. Thanks for the great info!
  • javrsmith Nov 18, 2010 @ 3:09 pm | delete
I had to publish my lenses before this would display in my default bio.
  • Greekgeek Nov 15, 2010 @ 12:46 am | delete
I just tried putting this onto a Facebook fan page where I had created an HTML landing page ("static FBML") which visitors should arrive at first. It won't track behavior on the other tabs, but at least that should capture some data.
  • The_Health_Lady Nov 14, 2010 @ 8:43 pm | delete
I should probably put this on my "to do" list. I didn't realize that it was that easy and the information is definitely important,

Yes, this was very useful. I've not been very good about tracking anytime of statistics. (but I know I should!) This makes it sound pretty easy.

Congrats on LOTD! I have a couple of (probably dumb) questions! Firstly, when I signed up it ask me for my website URL, was I right in putting squidoo.com and then adding the URL of each lens? Secondly, I was given a tracking code on joining but should I ignore this and use the tracking html you give here? Thirdly, the tracking html you give - the only thing I need to change on that is my UA number, is that correct? Sorry, this is all new to me! Thank you so much for being the most helpful Squid on Squidoo, I read something of yours at least once a day!

This is terrific, Fluff! I remember asking you about this not too many weeks ago in a forum. I use Google Analytics for my Etsy Shop and LOVE the fact that I can now use it for my Squidoo lenses. I love knowing where my visitors come from, especially. Thanks so much for this great new "How-To" and congratulations on LOTD - well deserved for all you do for us Squidsters!
