How to Use Google Talk (Chat) with Squidoo
Google Talk or Chat is the Google instant messaging system.
It's a powerful product, but not something I'm using with my Squidoo-based website.
While it works great for certain applications, there are considerations that make it impractical for my First Time in Las Vegas web site. But it may be perfect for yours.
This 11-chapter ebook describes the basic concepts behind building professional-looking multi-lens projects -- ebooks, extended tutorials, department stores, shopping malls, and more -- using Squidoo and Google Apps for your Domain.

Here's How I Would Use Google Talk (Chat) with Squidoo
My lenses provide what I consider to be 'evergreen information' that gets minor updates a couple of times per month. Other than that, the content doesn't really ever go out of date.
So there's really no need for instant messaging. Email with my readers satisfies my needs. And I eliminate one more interruption (answering instant messages) any time I'm at my computer, day or night.
If I had a Squidoo lens that sold stuff, I assume that customers who are ready to buy would probably have questions. And if an immediate response could close a sale, then instant messaging with my customers would make sense.
Watch Out for Some Limitations with Google Talk (Chat)
- does NOT talk with some other instant massaging systems.
- is integrated with your GMail account, and does NOT work if GMail is in use. (You can set up two email addresses, and use one for email, and the other for instant messaging.)
Helping 'Google Talk' Talk with Other IM Services
from LifeHacker.com
EXCERPT: "...you probably still have a lot of contacts who use other services, like AIM, Yahoo, and even (gasp!) MSN. Today I'll show you how to chat with all of your instant messaging buddies -- with all the benefits of Gmail and web integration -- using Google Talk as a universal chat application."
Brainstorming Options for Using Google Talk (Chat)
- send files.
- make voice calls.
- leave voicemail messages.
- set up Chat to provide customer service during store/office hours, which you can list on your public Calendar.
- set up Chat accounts for multiple users to collaborate on lens development and operation.
