How to Use the Google Custom Search Engine with Squidoo

google custom search logo

Although not a part of Google Apps for your Domain, the Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) adds a powerful capability to any group of lenses.

The Custom Search Engine enables visitors to search all my related lenses by keyword or phrase using Google Search. Fast. Accurate. And ties all the lenses together into an actual web site.

Google's Custom Search Engine is a great complement to Google Apps.

This 11-chapter ebook describes the basic concepts behind building professional-looking multi-lens projects -- ebooks, extended tutorials, department stores, shopping malls, and more -- using Squidoo and Google Apps for your Domain.

Here's How I Use the Google Custom Search Engine with Squidoo

The Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) could be the single most powerful tool Google offers.

All you need is a Google Account to create a custom search engine. Sign in, and fill in the blanks on the screen. Most importantly, you can enter the specific URLs (web site addresses) you want Google to search, when someone enters a keyword or phrase.

Just list all the Squidoo lens names, one per line. Save the selections. CSE generates HTML code automatically. Just copy and paste into any web page.

I set up a second web page using Page Creator, and make that my Custom Search page.

Enter a keyword like 'Wynn' and Google searches across all the related lenses in the Sin City Travel Guide Series and the Sin City Rolodex Series.

This one capability -- search -- turns the web page and related lenses into a real web site.

Other Options for Placing Google Custom Search Links in Lenses

So far, I can NOT get any of the search engine code to run in a Squidoo module.

Instead, I place links -- see 2 examples below -- in the modules that go to my custom search page, which was built using Page Creator in Google Apps.

ALSO: With these Supercharge Squidoo lenses, I've incorporated the CSE link into the navigation bars in the first and last modules of each lens.

Excellent content - as you always provide and inspires me to come again and again. You are on my RSS reader now.
By the way, there is one more valuable resource I'd like to share with others readers. It's about getting No #1 ranking for any Keyword on Google, Yahoo and MSN search engine almost instantly.
I won't waste any of your time because this is absolutely mind-blowing:

If you are including more than 3 domains into your CSE, you should be aware of severe limitations of Google CSE. You could read this article on Squidoo (my case study for using Google CSE for building an Automotive Performance Parts Search Engine):

Awesome resource. I've actually programmed a resource that takes the top searches from Google, and places them into an RSS feed. Please let me know what you think at Google Search RSS
