I decided to publish Google Homepage review from my good friend Joshua Nestor, who just loves all the current Internet based technology, and loves to... (more...)
The definition of Google is a search engine that is accessible worldwide. More often than not it's the easy or obvious that will trip us up and give us a moment of hesitation.
So here is the "Google Homepage" explained step-by-step.
Naturally you will need to select an address; such as (www.) plus the country's acronym or name .com like USA, UK or Malaysia. For instance typing in the web address along with UK will bring you the local version of the search engine where you'll be able to look for information worldwide but also access UK specific pages.
Something to remember a PC will pick automatically which Google site is closest. Let's say you're in the States you will automatically be directed to the American site; whilst in Canada the .ca version opens. It is however easy to set your PC to whichever site of Google you're interested in. With other words if your traveling you can still set your Home Page with home news etc.
In the center of the page or screen is what could be called the 'request bar' into which you type your query keywords or phrases.
Let's go to the top left corner:
- Images: This prompt will give you the opportunity to request a web-wide image search by typing in a keyword or phrase into the 'request bar'.
- Maps: Here you can search for addresses: e.g. 700 East St.James street New York; find businesses: e.g. Hotels in North West London; or get directions: e.g. how to get from Windsor Ontario to Toronto.
- News: This prompt shows continuously updated news. Covering worldwide and your specific area's top stories. All categorized under different headings such as Business, Sci/Tech, Sports, Entertainment, Health, etc. Google News search and browse has over 4500 news sources. The top story headings can also be rearranged to fit personal preferences. Also the option exists to have this as your homepage.
- Video: For the Music, Comedy, Sports, or Animation video enthusiast. The top 100 videos are available from all the headings. Time length of each with a 5 star rating is also displayed. Various international versions can also be accessed.
- Gmail: It's free to sign-up for Gmail. (username and password protected Sign-in). Receiving and sending email is just the basis of the Gmail site. They pride themselves in Less Spam, Find Your Mail Instantly, Organize, Chat with People You Already Email, Labels, Filters, Lots of Space with no need to delete messages, No Pop-ups, Mobile Phone Access; these are just some of its many features. Also Gmail is very serious about protecting its user's privacy etc.
More
This drop menu points out many more searchable categories.
- Groups: There are 10,000 + groups to join for discussions etc or create a new group.
- Books: The book search is divided into fiction, non-fiction, random subject book lists for adults or children etc. Giving a review of the title in question. Author, Publisher information, Where to purchase etc. are all available on a side panel.

Beside the 'subject request bar'
there are three added prompts:
- Advanced search: This prompt offers many added options for making the searches closest to the related subject with more results.
- Preferences: Information can be available in the checked off language.
- Language tools: A search phrase in one language can get results in other language pages that Google will translate to the desired language.
At the bottom of the page 4 prompts remain:
- Advertising Programs: Google AdWords is for the advertiser who wants to reach maximum amount of people with information concerning product and on-line services. (for a fee) Find out cost and more information on-line.
Google AdSense automatically places ad text and images to your site, which can earn shared revenue (at no cost) Apply on-line for more information & activation number. - Business Solutions: Opportunities for site owners; Put your info on Google, Enhance your website, Increase productivity.

It is cool to see how the "big G" evolved over time. I just recently started using it instead of Yahoo which I used for years. Thanks man! Posted March 19, 2008 |
