    Many of them doesn't work anymore... And no, there is no alternative for google. That is my opinion. If you want traffic, quality visitors you need to be on google.

    This search engine is great for things such as school work and research for articles or other such works. Google alternatives are one way on how to display results that are related to the niche.

    Its obvious, when a software company becomes too large and arrogant, that they start making the user interface LESS customizable with FEWER user options for functional behavior and layout. Case and point: micro$oft office 2007, Google search, Gmail, the Bing search layout, Yahoo, et. al. Nothing like going backwards 10 years and making software less conforming to the user, less familiar, slower, more mouseover-animated and less flexible.
