Google Analytics- Ask Me or Tell me

Adding new dimension to your website promotional efforts is easily atained through the clever use of Google Analytics. There are so many reasons you need to track visitor engagement with your site and so few why you should not.

I recently worked with a Toronto based internet marketing firm on a contract. The terms of the contract were to become a GAAC (Google Analytics Authorized Company). This was a great challenge because less than 40 companies (at this time) possess this elite Google credential.

We now have the Google badge and can tell you it was worth all the hard work we put in. Now we are building the company analytic deliberative process. It is almost there! Analytics is so powerful you can send your client for a spin. When you report findings or determine actions it must be meaningful and profitable. To do this there are simple fundamentals to follow...

  • Focus on KPIs (key performance indicators)

  • Develop your own effective deliberative process

  • Proper integration of tracking code

  • Don't do too much at one time

  • Don't fight data driven decisions

  • Set up goal funnels

  • On this lens let's share knowledge. If you have a question I will do my best to answer it with accuracy. If you have expertise to share...by all means!

Hi Robert and thanks for providing this Q & A pad. Maybe you are available for some consulting? Anyways, how do I create a profile that filters all traffic but my PPC traffic? I am running PPC advertising in Google Adwords, MSN, Facebook and Yahoo. I would love one channel (profile) that focuses on PPC only. Is is possible?

But there's more! You can also go to Visitors ==>Visitor Trending:
      - Pageviews
      - Average Pageviews
      - Time On Site
      - Bounce Rate
Again you have the ability to apply which time dimension you want%u2026 hour, day, week, and month.
Probably the most important "time of day" metric is in your goal conversion. You will need to have goals configured for this to work. Wouldn't it be cool if you could tell your clients when conversions are taking place? Yah baby it sure would. Moreover, if a client does not have goals configured it's time to do it! Setting goals for your website is right at the top of the data food chain for effective website promotion.

      1) Click Goals
      2) Click Total Conversions
      3) Choose time line
      4) Choose time dimension time; hour, day, week, month
      5) See how many conversion took place at that time
      6) Don't forget you can also export PDF, XML CSV, TSV reports as well.

A question was recently asked from a business associate, Lisa. Lisa is an account management strategist for a tier one internet marketing company in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I am doing just great, Lisa. I hope you are all set for the holidays! I cannot believe how time flies.

Google Analytics will give you the information you are looking for and more. The way to see what time of day people are visiting your website is Visitors==>Visitor Trending==>Visits.

      Image Here

      1) Click Visitors on the left navigation menu
      2) Click the timeline. If you want to see activities on one given day remember the time delay. Report data may not appear in your reports for up to 24 hours
      3) Click Visits on the left navigation menu
      4) Choose desire measurement of time; hour, day, week, month

The yellow highlight area shows the time of day and the blue shows how many visitors.

      More to follow...
