Love the lens! There are other alternatives besides Ebay. I am with a company called Bidzinger that has been around since 2008 and have seen their success and continued growth. I have also made many sales on this site as well as others. It's a venue like others that is worth attention for the seller.

Google and ebay are great ways to earn extra money. Google can be tough sometimes though when they do stuff with your website that you can't explain! Great Page though well done!

I officially hate eBay. I was a member for 10 years and 100% feedback, you would think they would treat online customers more professionally.

I listed a Pioneer DVD player this past month and BANG they canceled my auction and suspended me for NO REASON! Only stated they did not think I was auctioningéacting in the SPIRIT of their policies - WTF?

Thanks ebay, I hope your monopoly ends soon.

Ebay this name make me sick...I have lost so much money due to their new rules...I hope google do create a auction site.. and take the bastard ebay out of market for good..
  • Ritch Jul 24, 2009 @ 1:05 am | delete
If Google opened an auction site with a nice, clean, easy to use interface - they would BLOW eBay out of the water. They have the ultimate advertizing tool with their Google search engine. All it would take is for them to add a small flashing icon on Google searches mainpage saying: "NEW GoggleBay" and everyone would click it.

eBay have made a very bad mistake by getting on the wrong side of sellers in so many different ways. 80% of current sellers would drop eBay in favour of gBay in a heart beat. And where the sellers go, the buyers will follow.

    GO GO GO GoogleBay!!!

I've sold on ebay before but stopped when they started making changes. I've thought about going back but if google did start an auction site, I'd give them a try if their rates were good.

There are many options now; I think choice is great but as an eBay seller, I'm with eBay to stay.

I would so love Google auctions but in for now it's eBid.net and Google checkout for me.
  • eBid-Squid Nov 24, 2008 @ 3:47 pm | delete
The only alternative auction site big enough to take on eBay is eBid.net or Google
  • BevsPaper Nov 4, 2008 @ 7:06 pm | delete
Google would stand the best chance of giving eBay a run for their money. Other auction sites fail because they just don't have that "household" name recognition. That's why Google is the best candidate for the job. Google is as big of an icon as the Bay! Come on Google, the time is ripe!

    go EBAY!!!
  • Jacksdad Oct 8, 2008 @ 12:33 pm | delete
Come on Google....everybody loves your site and with so many disgruntled ebay users, there is no better time than now to launch an auction site. If you launched an auction site, I GUARANTEE ebay users would flood your site by the millions. With Google checkout and your search engine in place this would be a logical next step.
    Please Google...bury ebay!!!
  • Portable_eBay Sep 16, 2008 @ 2:26 pm | delete
Well in our corner of the planet, eBay is still acceptable. :-) We all hope it stays that way and not follow the path of eBay.com

A duel in the lens below still has no defenders on the side of eBay.

Portable eBay - It's eBay on the Move!!!

I agree Ebay needs competetion. I am a former ebay power seller and internet marketer. Ebay is now forcing people to use paypal as a condiditon to selling with them. I dont now and not ever again will sell on ebay and I closed my paypal account. I have been selling my items on various sites on the net. I love google checkout an that is the only checkout system I use. Google already has the infrastructure in place a auction would be easy to launch. They already have a great web presence and I think it wouldnt take no time for them to humble ebay which is getting out of control.

Ebay sucks beyond explanation. Horrible to there REAL customers (the sellers!) and getting worse still.

They ban you if you speak out against them, and suspend your account even if you have 5000 feedback! GIVE ME AN ALTERNATIVE WITH REAL POWER!

    GIVE ME GOOGLE AUCTIONS!

Interesting comments Lewis, though google could well run an auction site as a service to the community organising the world's data could easily cover this and we'd get a fee free auction site powered by google!
This would obviously impact on the relationship with ebay and advertising revenue, but am sure they'd pick up the slack quickly on this and running adverts on the auction site would more than cover the loss in revenue from ebay.

I just finished reading The Google Story, the book listed here. And it's really good. I don't think Google will open Google Auctions, because they don't see themselves as a commercial company. Their aim is to 'organise all the world's data'. And if they make a profit from it, great. But right now, when they look at a new idea they don't ask 'will it earn us money', they ask 'will it scale, and will it be useful?'

So I don't think Google Auctions will be coming any time soon.....
