Top 10 Tips and Tricks for finding information with Google Search!

Everyone knows Google Search is great for finding information on the Internet. But, did you know that Google Search can do basic arithmetic and complicated math? Yup...it's true.

You can also find out who is linking to your Squidoo Lens or other web page by entering the appropriate syntax into the Google Search box. Now that's cool! We all know that the more links you get to your web site the better.

Google Search has many search features. However, I've only included the top 10 Google Search techniques that I think are the coolest. Why not join in with the current poll and tell me what your favorite is or put a comment in the Guest Book.

Okay...enough small talk. Here are the top 10 cool things you can do with Google Search.

1. Who is linking to you? 

Find pages that point to a specific URL.

The query "link:siteURL" shows you pages that point to that URL. Here's an example:

2. Calculator 

Use Google Search to evaluate mathematical expressions.

To use Google's built-in calculator function, simply enter the calculation you'd like done into the search box and hit the Enter key or click on the Google Search button. The calculator can solve math problems involving basic arithmetic, more complicated math, units of measure and conversions.

  1. 3+7*12
  2. 2^3
  3. half a cup in teaspoons

3. Movies 

Use Google Search to find reviews and showtimes for movies playing near you.

To find reviews and showtimes for movies playing near you, type "movies", "showtimes" or the name of a current film and your zip code into the Google search box. Click on the "More movies" link to get the full listing. Here's an example:

4. Weather 

Check current weather conditions and forecast for any location in the world.

To see weather conditions and a four-day forecast for a particular U.S. or worldwide location, type "weather," followed by the location. Usually a city name will be enough, but you may also want to include a state or zip code or the country for worldwide cities. Here's an example:

5. Currency Conversion 

Perform any currency conversion

Enter the conversion you would like to perform into the Google Search box and hit "Enter" or click the Google Search button.

  1. 5 USD in AUS
  2. currency of Brazil in Malaysian money
  3. 10 British pounds in Philippine money

6. Travel Information 

Check the status of an airline flight in the U.S. or view airport information.

To see delays and weather conditions at a particular airport, type the airport's three letter code followed by the word "airport." For example, Denver International Airport updates can be found by searching for "den airport". To check the status of a U.S. flight, type the name of the airline followed by the flight number. Here's an example:

7. Search by Number 

Use Google to access package tracking information, U.S. patents, VINs, and other numbers found in databases.

You can enter the following numbers in the Google Search box: UPS, FEDEX, USPS, Vehicle ID Number, UPC code, patent numbers, and area codes. Here's an example using a VIN:

8. Stock and Fund Quotes 

Use Google Search to get stock and mutual fund quotes.

To use Google to get stock and mutual fund quotes, just enter the symbol into the search box. Here's an example:

9. Site Search 

Restrict your search to a specific site.

The word "site" followed by a colon enables you to restrict your search to a specific site. To do this, use the site:sampledomain.com syntax in the Google search box. Here's an example:

10. Local Search 

Search for local businesses and services in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.

Google Search enables you to search the entire web for just those stores and businesses in your area. Include a city or zip code in your search and Google displays relevant results from that region on a map with links to reviews, directions, and more information at the top of your search results. Here's an example:
