Web 2.0 + Corporate Partnerships = G1 Phone
Google seems to be making all of the right moves in this major market entrance, as it partners up with giants like Amazon.com to offer G1 Phone users a 6 million+ large DRM-free digital MP3 store to take on iTunes. In addition, T-Mobile has become the official carrier of the phone, taking on the tag team rival of AT&T and the iPhone. Lastly, touch screen contender HTC joined in the party as a member of the "Open Handset Alliance," a group of corporate sponsors who support the ongoing development of cross-platform development and open standards for hand held devices.
It gets better: thanks to the open-source platform, Google Android, G1 Phone owners will be able to enjoy a repository of cool software downloads, made by the community (or Google themselves).
The Wall Street Journal reports on the G1 Phone
Google Sets Android Loose with G1 Phone
The first ever Google-branded phone was unveiled on Tuesday. But even though the phone doesn't seem to break new ground with its interface, its the open source platform that has developers excited. WSJ's Amol Sharma reports. (Sept. 23)
How the G1 Phone will Revolutionize the Hand Held Device Market
There are already talks of rival copy-cat devices from Verizon, including its software which is slated to compete with Android, called Linux Mobile. The G1 Phone is already expected to be a direct contender against current best sellers, including Blackberry, the iPhone (and all of its clones), and Windows Mobile Devices. How these brands will compete with this new development is currently unforeseen.

The G1 Phone's Competitive Advantages
If you enter into a saturated market, you better have the credentials to justify the move. In this case, the Google brand name alone is its heavy advantage. Building on the principle of "simplicity" as it always has, Google carries this spirit into its G1 device.Don't think for a minute that Google didn't reference its counterpart, the iPhone, when designing the G1. Google's phone touts extremely receptive touch screen response with the elegance of an iPhone, and the backing of world-famous Google apps and network.
