If you have server-side development experience (PHP, ASP, etc.), you'll also be able to integrate that into your module if you want.

One way to learn about Google modules is to look at existing code. Here is a list of recent blogs tagged with "google modules" that might help you find what you need.

Other Modules-Based Sites

Google isn't the only one out there with personalized homepages or add ins. Both Windows Live (which may or may not actually be live) and Pageflakes support modules development.

Read my other lens (below) for details of the other personalizable homepages.

Examples and Where to Find Existing Modules

Oftentimes the best way to learn something is by example. I recommend looking at existing modules for ideas.

Google Modules
An unofficial collection of Google homepage modules.

Just a note from me personally: be careful with these. I don't recommend providing any personal info (email addresses, cell phone numbers, etc.) to any of these modules. You could be setting yourself up for a lot of spam.

About Me

I built my first Google homepage module just for fun and I really did enjoy it. But when Google actually accepted two of my modules for inclusion in their directory, I really got excited.

I thought it would be a nice thing to put all of this information into one place so other developers have a starting point.

The links below are about me personally.

This is my blog. The purpose of my blog is to evangelize my soon-to-be published novel, The Agency Delta and to be an outlet for the creative writer in me.

My Bio

I spend a great deal of my time trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Professionally I am a software developer, but right now I think I'd rather be a writer or perhaps a teacher or maybe a lead guitarist...
