Google Searching
some lessor known Google Search stuff
Ok so you know how to search on Google, thats the easy part.1. Now what if you want to know if your website is listed in the Google index.
Type in the search box site: followed by your url
For Example
site:http://www.squidoo.com/googletechnologies
You can also use site: to just search a particular website for something.
For Example
stuff on BBC site:http://www.bbc.co.uk
2. Now we know that we are listed in the Google Index, we need to know what information Google holds about our website, and when did it pay us a visit.
Type in the search box cache: followed by your url
For Example
cache:http://www.squidoo.com/googletechnologies
3. Now what about if you want to know where you website is mentioned and who is linking to you.
Type in the search box link: followed by your url
For Example
link:http://www.squidoo.com/googletechnologies
4. Now what if you are just wanting to know what something means, again just ask Google
Type in the search box define: followed by the word you want a definition for
For Example
define:Google
5. Now what if you are wanting to know if someone else is using your title.
Type in the search box intitle: followed by the title you are looking for
For Example
intitle:you stole my title
You can do the same thing if you want to know if a certain word is used
Type in the search box intext: followed by the word you are looking for
For Example
intext:world
Ok so we have some basics, but what if you are looking for some documents online, you don't really want every document and thing under the sun being returned.
So, say we are looking for a pdf order form.
Type in the search box the name of the form filetype: followed by the file type you are looking for such as pdf, doc, jpg or what ever
For Example
order form filetype:pdf
this will restrict your search to only return the file type you entered
Happy Searching
