Google and Migrant Workers

Gates once called his staff, ordered them to "keep an eye on those kids (Google). They are planning something". He just found out that opening jobs position in Google have similar specification requirement skills as Microsoft's. Consider their native businesses are different (software and search engine), so why do Google want skilled people like Microsoft has? You don't need Holmes to figure out what it mean.

Days before many people believe Microsoft's biggest threat is the open source community, more specific; the little penguin but perhaps the biggest Microsoft's rival in the future is Google, a traditional search engine that had transformed into more than just "type keyword and click search" tool. Google has beat MSN in search engine war long ago, it has Google Docs and Spreadsheet which are similar to Microsoft Word and Excel except they are free. Yes Excel is still richer in features but it may be just a matter of time.

Google Desktop is a powerful tool to find files in your local hard drive, even more powerful than the Search function in Windows. It is definitely faster, much faster and accurate. This is like "my friend knows better where things are in my own house than me". Disclaimer: It works on XP and Win2K, haven't compare it with Vista yet.

So what will Google do with those talented people? What are they looking for? Why do Google need so many skilled people? The answer may lay down deep inside the Googleplex but one thing we know for sure, it is a clear signal that Google is doing something. They won't stop here, they want to be more than just a traditional search engine. We have seen so many innovative products from Google and we can expect more.
