Goonies: A Classic Pop Culture Staple of the 80's
The Goonies is a children's action/fantasy movie written by Chris Colombus and directed by Richard Donner, whose story concept is from Stephen Spielberg. It was released on June 7, 1985.
Goonies Movie Synopsis
"Goonies" tells the story of a group of kids who fear losing their family's land to a private developer, and go on an outrageous treasure hunt with the help of an ancient pirate map - in hopes of raising enough money to save the house. The Goonies are Mikey Walsh, Clark "Mouth" Devereaux, Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen, Brand Walsh, Richard "Data" Wang, Stef Steinbrenner and Andy Carmichael. Their ages range from late elementary to high school.Their adversaries are the murderous Fratellis: criminal brothers Francis Fratelli and Jake Fratelli along with Ma Fratelli who acted as the brains of the trio. They were onto the treasure hunting plot and interrogated Chunk for specifics, leading to one of the most memorable comedic moments in the movie. Led into the basement as a prisoner, Chunk meets the hideous looking and seemingly unpredictable Sloth, a neglected (but abnormally big and strong) member of the Fratellis, who is shackled to a chair.
As the crew descends through a fireplace grate in an old decrepit building, they follow the map leading to the treasure as recorded by a 1930s explorer named Chester Copperpot, whose remains are later found along the way. Through a multitude of fatal traps, the group escapes death and relies on each other for moral support, even when it appears as though spirits are dwindling. The movie takes viewers through a series of wonderous and imaginative locations; most famously, the famous bone organ scene. The movie reaches a high point as the children (and the Fratellis) finally find the afformentioned pirate ship of "One Eyed Willy," with a dramatic conclusion.

Goonies and Goonies II Video Game Series
The Goonies make it to the arcade, PC & Nintendo
Release date: 2/1986 (Famicom), 1986 (PC), 11/1987 (NES)A 1986 PC game for the Goonies was a platformer in similar style to "Montezuma's Revenge," in which the player had to find a key to advance to the next level. During that same year, the Famicom (Japanese Nintendo console) released the Goonies video game, which later became popularized by its sequel, Goonies II, for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Goonies II was a complex but simple to play side-scrolling platformer, in which players had to navigate a massive world of caverns, attics and basements and even an underwater area while finding tools, weapons and other objects that assisted in their journey. In the game, you were Mikey, and the object was to rescue Annie (who, for no known reason was a mermaid), from the clutches of the Fratellis. Using a yo-yo and slingshot as your primary weapon, the majority of the enemies in Goonies II were snakes, spiders, skeletons, and the persistent Fratelli brothers. Goonies II featured great music, that included a rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "Goonies R Good Enough."
