Different Kinds of Goose Calls
There are two distinct types of goose calls. Short-reed and Flute style calls. Flute calls are popular for the beginning caller that is looking to start blowing a call for the first time. Short-reed calls are sought after due to their sound, users are able to mimick a gooses vocabulary quite accuratly with one of these calls. The only thing is that it takes a TON of practice time to master the notes you are trying to mimick as a goose. I will focus mainly on short-reed style calls (I will add some flutes in at the end). The short reed can be found in both polycarbonate and acrylic material. The polycarb calls will run much cheaper then an acrylic, but you are unable to get the crisp clean notes out of it like the acrylic. Competition callers prefer the acrylic short-reed for its LOUD, crisp clear notes that tend to win over the judges(who are listening to each and every noise they make). There are many different calls to choose from, so hopefully this will help you narrow down your search for that perfect call!
