Learn to play Gordon Giltrap's music and tab. Gordon Giltrap is the brilliant English Acoustic Guitar player. Influenced by Rock, Classical and English Folk music.
Gordon Giltrap's music and tabs have appeared in the UK's 'Total Guitar' magazine for a number of years. Seeing Gordon Giltrap live is an educational experience as are his guitar workshops which he does before every concert. He still tours regularly mainly in the UK and has recorded many CD's. He has also produced guitar tuition sheet music in tab and notes of his own tunes.
Gordon Giltrap - The Early Years
Gordon Giltrap (born in 1948) had a dedication and love for the guitar from the moment he got his hands on a friends toy guitar at the age of nine.
He is a self taught player and (after seeing him live) I noted that he had developed an unorthodox way of playing the acoustic steel string guitar. He is able to play his amazing acoustic pieces with a plectrum and the little finger of his right hand.
Gordon served his musical apprenticeship by playing in numerous bands, and this along with his love of playing to a live audience got him his first recording contract with Transatlantic records in 1968.

In the late 1970's Gordon Giltrap gets a hit album called 'Perilous". Important tunes for Gordon Giltrap and Band on this album are 'Fear Of The Dark' and 'Heart Song'. 'Heart Song' was made more popular as it was used by the BBC's Holiday Programme as it's main theme. The Holiday programme was televised at prime viewing time every Sunday evening after Christmas. 'Heartsong' was an optimistic tune that looked forward to the sun and the Summer holiday for rain swept Britons. Heartsong also won an Ivor Novello Award.

Many a famous musician has wanted to work with Gordon Giltrap. Gordon has worked with many famous guitarist musicians such as Martin Taylor (Jazz Guitar), the Classical Guitarist Raymond Burley, Midge Ure of the group Ultravox (also famous for 'Save The World' Christmas Charity single), The London Symphony Orchestra and Rock guitarist Brian May of Queen.

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights by Emile Bronte
One of Gordon Giltraps early influences was Cliff Richard and the Shadows. He eventually managed to perform on the stage with Cliff Richard. This chance came after been given the opportunity to write some of the music for the musical 'Heathcliff'. Heathcliff was based on the famous novel 'Wuthering Heights' by Emile Bronte. Gordon also played and accompanied Cliff in the musical on London's West End.
Gordon's Studio Albums, Live albums and DVD's
Gordon has recorded 25 studio albums of his original guitar music. Many of these albums contain his accomplished acoustic guitar solo pieces and some of the early albums are with the Gordon Giltrap band. He has also recorded a number of live CD's and DVD's. he has also put out a number of compilations. These are probably a good place to start for the new listener.

Although now sixty years of age Gordon Giltrap still performs many live concerts. He still manages to amaze live audience young and old with his dazzling technique and beautiful sounding acoustic guitar pieces.

- Great lens and very informative. Love the music of Gordon. He hails from my neck of the woods in the UK and I have seen him performing live at several local venues. I play but could not hope to emulate his style. Will be favouriting this lens so that I can get back and listen to the music often.
